Stellar Blade: Blood Rain

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is a single-player, third-person action-adventure from Shift Up and director Kim Hyung-tae, the team behind 2024's Stellar Blade. The story carries on beyond the first game's ending, but a new heroine named Evie takes the lead, working her way through a crowded futuristic city in hack-and-slash fights that stay close and physical.

About the game

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain

Blood Rain is the next entry in Shift Up's sci-fi action series, and the subtitle is deliberate. The studio prefers to give each game its own name rather than a number, which rules out Stellar Blade 2 as a title. Its first appearance came at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, in a trailer assembled entirely from in-game cutscenes and gameplay footage. A release date has not been announced.

Top 3 Reasons to Play

  1. Shift Up generates combat effects in real time instead of relying on pre-drawn trajectories, and the camera shifts to keep Evie and her opponent in frame. The aim is for players to react to movement while the effects stay secondary to the fighters' motion.
  2. Streets replace the first game's wide zones, bringing vertical movement and cramped fighting spaces, plus side content that the studio says will be richer than the original's.
  3. The director has called the original's story its weakest part, a casualty of tight development time. Fixing that is a stated priority this time, with almost the whole original team still in place.

Story and Lore

Time has passed since Stellar Blade ended, though Shift Up has not said how much. The 2024 game followed Eve across a post-apocalyptic Earth as humanity fought the alien Naytibas. Blood Rain leaves that scorched backdrop for an urban one, and even the basic geography is open: the city could be Earth in the distant future, the home of the Mother Sphere, or another habitable planet altogether.

Thematically, the director expects the sequel to push further into transhumanism and artificial sentience than its predecessor, asking what people would choose once AI could replace them entirely and what counts as being human. He is equally clear that the game will not supply tidy answers or double as social commentary.

Players of the first game can also expect to learn what became of several of its characters.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Evie fights with gauntlets, and the game opens on punches and kicks. Swords and other weapons unlock later, each introduced with a reason inside the story, with a reverse-blade sword among those being expanded. The combat is tuned so that a full playthrough is possible with close-quarters moves alone.

  • Depth sits in stance transitions and combo chains, according to Kim, who says every weapon and stance carries its own layers.
  • Monsters are designed to wreak havoc inside the city rather than ignore it. Giant creatures remain in the mix, pitched as grounded rather than absurd.
  • The interface changes substantially from the first game, with readability as the target.

Characters and Factions

  • Evie: The lead. Kim wants players to attach to her for reasons beyond her looks, and Shift Up is applying what it learned about player attachment while running Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. Her personality is meant to be more strongly defined than Eve's.
  • Canna: Evie's mission partner, referred to by that name in the reveal trailer.

No factions have surfaced yet. In the trailer, targets that Evie is tailing inject themselves with a substance before attacking an establishment, and the only insignia on display is a CDDP logo on the back of her outfit. Kim says it ties into her identity and declined to explain further, citing spoilers.

Editions

Shift Up has listed no editions, price or pre-order bonuses for Blood Rain. Anything listed under the plain Stellar Blade name, including its Complete Edition, is the 2024 game; the Blood Rain subtitle is the identifier to look for.

PC System Requirements

No minimum or recommended specifications have been released. In June interviews, Kim explained that Blood Rain is not being built around ever-rising hardware demands: the target is a game that is playable on current-generation consoles and current PCs, with the visual effort going into density in linear areas and variety among its urban locations.
