EA Sports FC 27
FC 27 is fourth EA Sports FC game, and the pitch from EA is control: less automation, more of the outcome resting on what the player actually does. Auto-tackles are out in favor of manual defending. Off-balance dribbling rewards players who keep their footing through contact. Corners are no longer a scripted animation. You position the taker and the runners yourself. Kylian Mbappé is back on an EA Sports cover for the first time since the FIFA license ended, coming off a 2026 World Cup run where he took home the Golden Boot and reclaimed his spot as the sport's most dangerous scorer.
Career Mode, Ultimate Team, Clubs and Kick Off are all still here, and EA says each one got reworked based on what players complained about after FC 26. The actual new thing is The Grounds, a shared social space that folds Clubs and a bunch of casual minigames into one persistent world, plus a Career Mode transfer market that's finally built on something closer to real valuation logic.
Top 3 Reasons to Play EA Sports FC 27
Out of everything in the patch notes, three changes actually matter for whether this is worth playing:
- New mode: The Grounds. Up to 100 players share a persistent football world split across three districts, each with its own identity and its own mix of Kickabouts, 1v1s and Clubs matches.
- Defending and dribbling reward skill again. Auto-tackles are gone, PlayStyle boosts matter less than a player's actual attributes, and off-balance dribbling finally gives technical players a way to survive contact instead of losing the ball outright.
- Career Mode's transfer market finally acts like a real market. Negotiations play out in stages, clubs can attach buy-back or performance clauses, and valuations lean on TransferRoom's Expected Transfer Value system instead of the flat asking prices FC 26 used.
Gameplay and Mechanics
Defending comes down to jockeying, timed tackles and positioning now, because the AI doesn't step in to cover for the player anymore. Auto-tackles being removed was one of the most requested changes after FC 26. Attacking gets similar treatment: teammates read space better on curved and overlapping runs, corner kicks put the taker and the runners under your control, and off-balance dribbling lets agile players ride out a challenge without losing the ball.
PlayStyles matter less than they used to. EA trimmed the accuracy boost from PlayStyle and PlayStyle+, and shot velocity now comes from core shooting attributes and input power, not item bonuses, so a player's actual stats count for more than whatever card they're on. A few smaller changes fill out the rest:
- Smarter CPU decisions in offline and online matches.
- More realistic physical duels and contact.
- Bigger environmental effects during matches.
- More gameplay sliders if you want to tune match settings yourself.
Game Modes and The Grounds
Of the three major modes, Manager Career got the biggest overhaul. Transfers now play out in stages rather than one offer and one counter, and valuations come from TransferRoom's Expected Transfer Value model, plus more clause types like buy-backs and performance triggers. Dynamic Overall Ratings also mean a player's OVR moves during the season based on form, morale, fitness, injuries and minutes played. A breakout loan spell or a bad injury can shift a rating well before the next squad update.
Ultimate Team is mostly the same shape as before, but a couple of changes stand out. FUT Gallery lets players collect favourite items around themes like league or nationality, leveling up as the collection grows. Single-player content picks up Live Events with dynamic difficulty and themed AI squads, and Hall of FUT adds a new item type built around fan favourites, kicking off with Adebayo Akinfenwa, Marouane Fellaini, Loïc Rémy, Eljero Elia and Giovani dos Santos.
The Grounds is the big new addition, and it's clearly borrowing from social spaces like NBA 2K's The City. Up to 100 players share a persistent football world split into three districts. Parkside leans into English football culture, Montclair is about training and development with a French flavour, and Zeiza is the high-tech Argentine district where the best players chase top rewards. Clubs has moved in here too instead of sitting in its own menu, so Leagues, Playoffs and the new 11v11 Club Tournaments all happen inside The Grounds now. When you're not in a real match, there are Kickabouts like Bocce Ball, Team Keepaway and the four-player Big Race for something looser. Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly and Paulo Dybala show up as mentors, and Alex Hunter, The Journey's original protagonist who last cameoed in FIFA 20, is back as the mode's main guide. It's current-gen only: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch don't get it.
Teams, Leagues and Editions
EA is touting more than 21,000 players, 800-plus clubs and national teams, 35-plus leagues, 140 stadiums and 300-plus football partners this year. The one that'll matter to a lot of players is Liga BBVA MX, back fully licensed for the first time since 2021, all 18 clubs included, with real names like Keylor Navas, Gilberto Mora and Erik Lira. Serie A picks up Lazio for a 17-team lineup, but Atalanta, Inter Milan and AC Milan are still missing their real identities, showing up as Bergamo Calcio, Lombardia FC and Milano FC. On the women's side, the Barclays WSL reflects its new 14-team format, and the NWSL adds Boston Legacy and Denver Summit.
There are three editions, all built on the same base game but with different rewards:
- Standard Edition: the full game, Career Mode rewards, some player items, and cosmetic content for The Grounds.
- Ultimate Edition: everything in Standard plus up to seven days of early access, a Season 1 Premium Pass, 6,000 FC Points paid out over three months, and extra Ultimate Team items.
- Ultimate Plus Edition: the most FC Points (10,000) and the highest-rated ICON items on top of Ultimate's benefits. EA only sold it during an early-bird window that closed 31 August 2026, so it's no longer part of the regular pre-order lineup.
Mbappé is on the Standard and Ultimate covers. Bellingham joins him on Ultimate Plus.
Platforms and Availability
EA Sports: FC 27 is on PC (Steam, EA App, Epic Games Store), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and Switch 2.
There is crossplay that works by console generation: PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players get grouped together, PS4 and Xbox One players get their own separate pool, and Switch and Switch 2 don't take part at all.
This is also the first FC game to carry a PEGI 16 rating in Europe. Every previous entry got PEGI 3. PEGI changed its rules in 2026 so anything with loot box-style mechanics automatically gets bumped to at least PEGI 16, and Ultimate Team's card packs qualify.
