World of Warcraft: Forever

World of Warcraft: Forever adds a permanent third mode to WoW, running alongside Modern and Classic. It keeps the level 60 vanilla setting but builds out the parts of the original 2004 game that never got finished: new zones, dungeons, quests, and a brand-new playable race called the Skyborne. Blizzard Entertainment launches it on PC and Mac on November 4, 2026, with a beta starting September 17.

About the game

Introduction

Blizzard's third take on World of Warcraft doesn't replace Modern WoW or Classic, it runs next to them. Same vanilla setting, same level 60 cap, but padded out with content that never made the original 2004 release: new zones, quests, dungeons. Blizzard Entertainment built and published Forever, revealing it at BlizzCon 2026 on September 12. Beta opens September 17, and the full launch lands November 4, 2026.

Setting: A New Chapter in Old Azeroth

This stretch of Azeroth's history sits after Warcraft III: Reforged's Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core opens. The base map and questlines are the same ones from WoW Classic; what's new is everything that got cut, shelved, or never finished the first time, twenty years later.

There are no separate realms to pick between. Players choose a region, then a ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplay, or the upcoming Hardcore mode), and everyone on that ruleset shares one world. Alliance and Horde stay separate as usual, and dungeon or raid groups are limited to players on the same ruleset.

Gameplay and What's New

On top of the familiar 1–60 leveling range, here's what's new:

  • Three new zones: Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, and The Riverglades
  • Over 1,000 new quests spread across the entire leveling range
  • Nine new dungeons and two new raids built for 10–20 players
  • A new PvP battleground set on the Darkspear Islands
  • A new neutral, elf-like playable race called the Skyborne, plus new race-class combinations such as an Undead Paladin
  • New professions, housing decoration items, and additional talents and abilities for existing classes

The engine got an upgrade too: new lighting, global illumination, and volumetric effects, plus a toggle between the original low-poly models and a sharper HD look. Transmog works across both, so old and new gear can be mixed without losing a look someone's spent years building.

Top 3 Reasons to Play

  1. New zones, new dungeons, and over a thousand new quests, all built into a version of Azeroth WoW Classic never touched.
  2. The Skyborne race and its class combos give existing players an actual reason to roll a new character, without pushing the level cap past 60.
  3. No flying mounts, no level scaling. Getting from one place to another still takes the time it used to.

Editions and Pre-Purchase Options

The core experience is free with an active WoW subscription or Game Time, installed through the Battle.net app alongside Modern WoW and Classic. Playing the new Skyborne race costs extra: it's locked behind one of three optional packs. The Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack, and the Warcraft Forever Collection that throws in Warcraft III: Reforged plus its new Forsaken Kingdom campaign, extra cosmetics, and guaranteed beta access. There's also a $150 physical Collector's Edition, with a 13-inch dwarf-and-bear statue, art prints, pins, and a companion journal on top of everything in the digital Collection.
