About the game

Resident Evil Remake Trilogy: RE2, RE3 and RE4 in One Bundle

Resident Evil Remake Trilogy collects Capcom’s rebuilt Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 in one pack. The campaigns run from police-station scavenging in a zombie-filled Raccoon City to a rescue mission through a cult-controlled Spanish village, all played from a third-person view.

Beyond the three main games, the pack carries the online spin-off Resident Evil Resistance plus the bonus content that comes with the Deluxe and Gold editions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Top 3 Reasons to Play

1. Three lengths, three paces

Resident Evil 3 is the quick one: a standard run takes around six hours. Resident Evil 4 asks for roughly 15 to 20 hours on a first pass, and Resident Evil 2 lands between them at about six and a half to ten hours per character.

2. Reasons to start a second run

Resident Evil 2 holds four scenarios: a first run and a second run for each of Leon and Claire. Clearing the campaign also unlocks two bonus modes.

  • The 4th Survivor: HUNK, an Umbrella agent, fights his way out of the sewers beneath Raccoon City.
  • The Tofu Survivor: the same route, except the hero is a block of tofu armed with nothing but a combat knife.

Resident Evil 4 adds a New Game Plus mode for another pass.

3. Alot of setting to tweak your game

Resident Evil 2 offers Assisted, Standard and Hardcore difficulty modes that change how plentiful items are and how tough enemies are. Resident Evil 4 supplies six control schemes, one of them styled after the 2005 original.

Story and Lore

Umbrella began as a pharmaceutical company and ended up responsible for the destruction of Raccoon City. Its T-virus spread through the population and turned most residents into zombies, and the first two games of the set unfold in the middle of that outbreak. In the second game the prize is the G-virus, a stronger pathogen developed by Umbrella scientist William Birkin, who injects himself with it and mutates. Police Chief Brian Irons accepted Umbrella’s bribes to bury the evidence.

Resident Evil 3 follows Jill Valentine, a former S.T.A.R.S. officer who kept digging into Umbrella after the Spencer Mansion incident. Umbrella’s answer is Nemesis, a bioweapon built to hunt down surviving S.T.A.R.S. members, and it stalks her through the ruined city.

Resident Evil 4 jumps ahead six years. Leon now works for the U.S. government and is sent to rural Spain after the President’s daughter, Ashley Graham, is kidnapped. The villagers are controlled by the Las Plagas parasite and pledged to a cult called Los Illuminados, whose leader, Osmund Saddler, has infected both Leon and Ashley with a Plaga. Getting it out of their bodies becomes part of the escape.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Each game builds its fights around a different central tool.

  • Resident Evil 2: Leon and Claire carry different arsenals. Leon works with a shotgun, a magnum and a flamethrower; Claire gets a grenade launcher, a submachine gun and the Spark Shot stun gun. Herbs and first aid spray handle healing. The Tyrant, known to fans as Mr. X, senses where you are, keeps hunting while off screen and cannot be killed during his chase. A room that holds both an item box and a typewriter is the one place he will not enter.
  • Resident Evil 3: Ammunition and healing items are scarce, and slipping past enemies is usually encouraged over killing them. Jill dodges attacks at close range, and a well-timed dodge opens a slow-motion window for a counter, while Carlos staggers enemies in melee. Ammo is crafted from gunpowder. Jill and Carlos share one campaign instead of separate scenarios.
  • Resident Evil 4: Leon’s knife can parry incoming attacks, including thrown axes and chainsaw swings. The blade has a durability meter, and the Merchant repairs it and upgrades weapons. Short stages put Ashley in the player’s hands.

Resident Evil Resistance, bundled with the Resident Evil 3 portion, is an online 4v1 game: four Survivors try to escape while one Mastermind places traps and enemies and watches through cameras. Capcom’s producer has said its scenarios cannot fit the main timeline. The Mercenaries, the Resident Evil 4 extra, pits the player against waves of enemies.

Characters and Factions

Leon S. Kennedy is the only lead who appears in two of the games: a rookie officer at the Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil 2, then a U.S. government agent in Resident Evil 4. Claire Redfield, a college student, shares the second game with him. Sherry Birkin, daughter of the G-virus scientists, becomes playable during Claire’s campaign, and Ada Wong takes the controls for stretches of Leon’s.

  • Umbrella: the pharmaceutical company behind the T-virus, the G-virus and Nemesis.
  • Raccoon City Police Department: Chief Brian Irons, who works for Umbrella, and Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, who supports Leon and Claire early on before the infection catches up with him.
  • S.T.A.R.S.: Jill Valentine and Brad Vickers, survivors of the Mansion incident.
  • U.B.C.S.: Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service mercenaries Carlos Oliveira, Mikhail Victor and Nikolai Zinoviev, who cross paths with Jill as she evades Nemesis.
  • Los Illuminados: the cult behind Ashley’s kidnapping, led by Osmund Saddler, with Ramon Salazar ruling the castle.

Ashley Graham travels alongside Leon through Spain. Luis Sera, a Spaniard who left a police career in Madrid to research Las Plagas for Saddler, helps them along the way. Jack Krauser, a former U.S. military man with history alongside Leon, and the Merchant, who sells to Leon across the countryside, round out the cast. Ada’s employer, Albert Wesker, stays in the background of the remake’s story.

Editions

The pack launched in October 2024 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It holds one edition of each game, plus extras:

  • Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition: the base game, the Separate Ways campaign starring Ada Wong, the Treasure Map expansion, costume sets and filters for Leon and Ashley, two deluxe weapons (Sentinel Nine and Skull Shaker), a sunglasses accessory for Leon, an ‘Original Ver.’ soundtrack swap and The Mercenaries.
