About the game

Overview and Introduction

Control Resonant is a single-player action RPG developed and published by Remedy Entertainment. Powered by Remedy's proprietary Northlight Engine, Control Resonant is a full-fledged action RPG sequel to 2019's award-winning Control.

Set several years after the events of the original game, the story shifts focus to Dylan Faden, who is released from captivity by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) to contain an extradimensional threat that has overrun Manhattan.

  • Core Pillars of Control Resonant:
    • Melee-Focused Action RPG: Shifts from third-person gunplay to aggressive close-range combat driven by the Aberrant, a shapeshifting Object of Power.
    • Interconnected Manhattan Sectors: Features expansive city districts filled with environmental puzzles, secrets, optional encounters, and paranatural threats.
    • Major Paranatural Encounters: Dylan faces powerful paranatural entities while developing new abilities and refining his character build.

Top 3 Reasons to Play Control Resonant

Control Resonant expands the Remedy Connected Universe with fast-paced combat design, deep character progression, and atmospheric environmental storytelling.

  • Aggressive, Fast-Paced Melee Combat: Moves away from traditional blocking and parrying in favor of active dodging, melee-driven resource regeneration, and finishing attacks.
  • Deep Action RPG Progression: Features customizable talent trees, reallocatable supernatural abilities, and multiple Aberrant weapon transformations.
  • Expanding Remedy Universe Narrative: Delves deeper into the lore of the Federal Bureau of Control and the Faden siblings through a narrative-driven campaign in a distorted urban landscape.

Story, Lore, and World

The narrative takes place in a warped, paranaturally distorted version of Manhattan. Following a massive containment breach, extradimensional forces and fungal Mold infestations corrupt the urban environment.

Narrative Premise and Setting

  • Dylan's Mission: Released by the FBC, Dylan Faden must fight through infected city sectors to contain the extradimensional threat while searching for his sister, Jesse Faden.
  • Expansive Sectors: The world consists of distinct areas of Manhattan, each offering different environments, enemies, secrets, and optional activities.
  • Dialogue Choices: Dialogue options influence how Dylan interacts with other characters and how NPCs perceive him throughout his journey.

Gameplay, Combat, and Mechanics

Combat in Control Resonant emphasizes aggressive close-range play, rewarding players for maintaining pressure on their enemies.

Core Mechanics

  • The Aberrant Weapon: Dylan's shapeshifting melee weapon can take multiple forms, including dual-wielded blades and a heavy two-handed hammer.
  • Stuns & Executions: Dylan can stagger enemies and exploit openings to perform powerful finishing attacks, rewarding an aggressive approach to combat.
  • Resource Loop: The combat system rewards aggressive play by tying melee attacks and enemy takedowns to Dylan's ability to sustain himself in battle.
  • The Gap & Ability Progression: The Gap is a space tied to Dylan's psyche where players shape their build by developing supernatural combat abilities, Aberrant weapon forms, and talents.
