About the game

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Wall jumps change how a 6v6 map is read, and a drivable vehicle changes how a Zombies round is survived. Black Ops 7 continues the Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6 storylines.

Top 3 Reasons to Play

  1. The campaign is built for squads. Up to four players can take on its 11 missions together, many of which begin in an open stretch of Avalon, and solo play remains possible.
  2. Zombies returns to a round-based format on a large open map with vehicle gameplay and 192 Augments. Cursed mode strips the loadout down to a pistol and stacks harder Relics for better rewards.
  3. Progression is shared. Global Progression now includes the campaign, so XP, weapon camos and challenges earned there carry into other modes and Warzone.

Story and Lore

The story takes place in 2035, about a decade after Black Ops 2. Raul Menendez, that game's antagonist, returns with a televised threat, and The Guild, a global tech company based in Avalon, steps in.

David "Section" Mason leads Specter One, a JSOC team that also includes Mike Harper, Eric Samuels and Leilani "50/50" Tupuola. Their mission in Avalon uncovers a plot that drags each of them back into their own past.

Zombies follows its own thread in the Dark Aether, a purgatory realm in which locations from different eras and dimensions overlap.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Between missions the campaign jumps across locations and years, and in the open areas of Avalon waypoint markers guide the squad to the next objective.

Multiplayer includes:

  • 16 core 6v6 maps, 13 of them new and three remade from Black Ops 2 (Hijacked, Express and Raid), plus two 20v20 maps for Skirmish
  • Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy and Hardcore, alongside Overload, a new mode in which teams carry a device into the opposing side's control zones to overload them
  • Skirmish, a 20v20 mode that brings armoured vehicles, ATVs and a wingsuit onto the map

Omnimovement gains wall jumps, and Tactical Sprint is no longer a default option; it comes back as an optional perk. Overclock upgrades weapons, tacticals, lethals, field upgrades and scorestreaks through use, with each item upgradable twice per match. The launch roster has 30 weapons, 16 of them new to the series, and Weapon Prestige runs through two standard tiers before Prestige Master with 250 levels.

Zombies launched with the round-based map Ashes of the Damned, which links six main areas (among them Janus Towers Plaza, Vandorn Farm and Zarya Cosmodrome) by roads and a fog. Standard mode layers main and side quests over the round-based formula, Directed offers a guided path for newer players, Survival removes the quests entirely, and Cursed is the hardcore option.

Ol' Tessie is a repairable Wonder Vehicle, the Necrofluid Gauntlet is the new Wonder Weapon, 12 Perk-a-Colas are available, and exfil happens through phone booths that summon a high-value target. Dead Ops Arcade 4 returns as a top-down, twin-stick mode with over 20 arenas and 80 levels.

Characters and Factions

  • David "Section" Mason (Milo Ventimiglia) commands Specter One. Ventimiglia replaces Rich McDonald, who previously played the role.
  • Mike Harper (Michael Rooker) returns from Black Ops 2 as a member of Specter One.
  • Emma Kagan (Kiernan Shipka) is a new character and the CEO of The Guild.
  • Eric Samuels and Leilani "50/50" Tupuola complete the Specter One roster.
  • Slade "Razor" Barrick leads the second JSOC team, Specter Two.
  • Raul Menendez is the campaign's returning villain.

The Guild is the corporate power based in Avalon, and Specter One and Specter Two are the two JSOC teams in the campaign. The Zombies crew is made up of Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo and Richtofen from the original line-up, together with Maya, Weaver, Carver and Grey.
