In this collection, you can find all 12 games that won the GAMIVO Game of the Month award, thus gaining the right to compete for the Game of the Year title. It's worth noting that we honored not only new releases but also older games that saw a significant increase in popularity and sales.

January - God of War

This critically acclaimed action-adventure title was initially released in April 2018 for the PlayStation 4 console. It was a soft reboot of the long-running God of War series. Kratos, a former Greek god of war, travels with his son Atreus to fulfill his wife's last wish. On their dangerous yet fascinating journey, the father and son have to face legions of powerful foes, including Norse gods and mythical creatures. The PC version of God of War hit the shelves on January 14, 2022, receiving sky-high scores and incredibly favorable reviews.

February - Elden Ring

Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, was arguably the most awaited AAA title of 2022. After some delays, this action role-playing game was released in February. The story follows a player character, the Tarnished, who must travel through a dangerous fantasy world and battle diverse opponents, including mighty bosses. Elden Ring was the first release from FromSoftware to combine the Dark Souls formula with open-world gameplay. Elden Ring managed to meet very high expectations and received critical acclaim, with many praising its unique mix of combat and exploration.

March - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

It's a spin-off of the beloved Borderlands series that evolved from the Borderlands 2 DLC called Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands combines elements of action adventures, action RPGs, and looter shooters. The game follows the player's character, a Vault Hunter, as he travels through the dangerous fantasy world of Wonderlands and battles various opponents in order to save the land. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands features many characters from the Borderlands universe. Its unique art style, witty humor, creative level design, and numerous customization options have earned Tiny Tina's Wonderlands legions of avid fans.

April - Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The long-awaited new installment of the Lego Star Wars series was released in April 2022. It allows players to experience the storylines of all nine movies from the Skywalker saga. You can play as hundreds of characters from the movies and visit locations across the galaxy as The Skywalker Saga connects story missions with semi-open-world exploration. The game also features lots of fun side quests and puzzles. As a result, it's an excellent game for both kids and adults who enjoy the world of Star Wars.

May - Warhammer 40K Chaos Gate Daemonhunters

The game features a complex yet intuitive combat system that rewards tactical thinking. Players can choose from several customizable classes and develop their heroes in accordance with personal strategies.

June - Project Zomboid

Despite being on Steam Early Access for almost a decade, Project Zomboid absolutely deserved June's Game of the Month crown as it was one of the most popular games of 2022. This zombie survival open-world game has been constantly improved, gaining new content. As a result, more and more fans want to fight for survival in a zombie-infested world, where the player character has to survive by scavenging resources, building fortifications, and making alliances with other survivors.

July - TMNT: Shredder's Revenge

Our Game of the Month for July is an old-school beat 'em up action game that flawlessly pays homage to classics such as Battletoads or Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. It is based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, specifically the 1987 cartoon series. Players can play as the beloved ninja turtles and their friends to engage in side-scrolling combat, acting as a team to defeat Shredder's criminal gang. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge also offers hidden levels, cutscenes, and a co-op mode, adding even more fun to the game.

August - Cult of the Lamb

This roguelike indie release is somehow adorable and ominous at the same time. Players take on the role of the eponymous lamb, who tries to build a cult worshiping the mysterious stranger who saved the protagonist from the slaughter. Cult of the Lamb combines roguelike elements with strategy skills necessary to conquer new lands and gain more followers.

Semptember - Cyberpunk 2077

Its long-awaited release in December 2020 was far from flawless. Performance issues plagued the last-generation versions in particular. Fortunately, CD Project RED has put its efforts into fixing Cyberpunk 2077. In 2022, the game finally received some long-awaited updates as well as new content based on the wildly successful Edgerunners TV series. Consequently, we decided to appreciate Cyberpunk 2077 and award it with September's Game of the Month title.

October - Gotham Knights

Another game of the month is a unique take on the superhero genre. Gotham Knights brings players to a grim version of Batman's universe, where you can play as four iconic superheroes - Batgirl, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Robin. You have to explore an open-world version of Gotham City and complete numerous side missions to upgrade your characters and unlock new skills. The game also has a co-op mode, allowing players to join forces and fight evil together.

Modern Warfare II is solid proof that even ancient video game franchises can provide players with exciting and fresh content.
