The line between Leipzig and Dresden dates back to the 1830s. It was built to fulfil the idea of linking the cities of eastern Germany, a bold bet and leap into the world of inter-city transportation. Ultimately the bet proved to be worthwhile, and the line soared in popularity. It’s not always been smooth sailing, the Second World War took its toll on the line, but by the 1960s, with the line having already well surpassed its centenary, improvements began to be made, including the likes of electrification.
