Takumi Sumino is a perfectly normal adolescent who lives in the Tokyo Residential Complex, where nothing unusual ever occurs and each day is pretty much the same. When strange creatures start wrecking havoc and attacking the community, everything changes. A weird being who goes by the name Sirei shows up and gives Takumi the ability to defend the people he cares about. He just needs to give himself a chest stab wound!

The next thing he knows, Takumi is in Last Defense Academy, a remote school encircled by an unearthly flame wall. In order to keep the school secure for the next 100 days, he and 14 other pupils have been enlisted into the Special Defense Unit. To regain their normal lives and protect the world from the hideous school invaders, how much are they prepared to give up?
