Considering the long-reaching cultural impact that the SpongeBob cartoon has had on modern pop culture, it’s nice to see that the franchise got at least one solid video game that properly represents the unique draw of SpongeBob and his friends. Though Battle for Bikini Bottom doesn’t bring anything new to the table as a 3D platformer, its strong level design, lighthearted tone, and gorgeous remastered visuals make this one an easy recommendation. That being said, rampant technical issues hold the game back from true greatness, which is a real shame given the quality in nearly every other area. As a result, this certainly isn’t the game to unseat Super Mario Odyssey, but those of you that love a good collect-a-thon 3D platformer will find plenty to love here.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Sponge Bob! And now more than ever we can relive his adventure and go deep into the sea thanks to the remastering that THQ brings to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. In that year 2003 this video game was released for the classic PS2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube consoles, but it has been more than 15 years where technology has marked a before and after, so it was time to update it. In its day, this game went something unnoticed as a benchmark within its category and this platform genre was full of titles such as the classics DonkeyKong, Super Mario, Rayman, among others. This time they did not want to manipulate almost anything from the original video game, showing relatively small changes, maintaining the same story and gameplay, but including the most beautiful graphics.
