Thanks to its Mothercrystal, each kingdom has access to magic, as well as a single Dominant who has the ability to call upon Eikons.

The protagonist of the game Final Fantasy XVI is Clive Rosfield. He was anticipated to succeed his father as ruler of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. Instead, he serves as guardian for Joshua, his younger brother, who became the Dominant, a person with the ability to manifest powerful magic. Joshua can use magic based on fire because his Eikon is the fire elemental Phoenix.
