This event had two profound effects: it raised the dead as soulless entities and bestowed a cursed immortality on all living things. The world thus broke up into factions, each with its own philosophy about how to handle this new reality. Some people will stop at nothing to bring back the natural order. Some see this situation as a blessing or a kind of evolution, but they now find it difficult to deal with the constant threat that the soulless offer. Others, who perceive the soulless as a resource rather than a monstrosity, look for ways to live alongside or even subjugate them.
