God of War: Kratos’s height, age, and other things you’re curious about

News 04/11/2022

God of War, also known as God of War 4 or God of War (2018), is one of the best action-adventure games ever created. No wonder many players have tons of questions about Kratos, Atreus, and their journey. Here, we’ll explain the most significant issues regarding the Santa Monica Studio bestseller.

Who is the god of war?

There are many different gods of war in different cultures. The god of war in Greek mythology is Ares, the Roman god of war is Mars, and their Norse counterpart is Týr. In the God of War series, this title belongs to a Spartan named Kratos, who becomes a god after defeating Ares. Unfortunately, his ascension wasn’t far from his downfall. When we meet him in GoW 4, he’s a changed man on a new quest with his son Atreus.

Who made God of War?

It depends. If you want to know what developer created the God of War series, the answer is Santa Monica Studio, which is one of Sony’s first-party studios. However, we can also discuss this matter on a more metaphorical level. In this case, we can point out Zeus. The king of the gods was responsible for making Kratos a god after the fall of Ares. Moreover, the games are based on Greek mythology. Therefore, in a way, we may perceive the Ancient Greeks as the God of War’s creators.

How long is God of War 4?

The length of the game depends on your playstyle. If you want to complete all side quests and find every secret, it may take up to 50 hours to beat the game. However, if you’re focused only on the main story, you can finish God of War in 20-25 hours.

How old is Kratos?

No game reveals the precise age of Kratos. During the events shown in GoW III, he’s approximately 40-45 years old. Consequently, if we assume that God of War (2018) takes place another ten years later, Kratos would be around 50 years old in the game. However, we have to remember that Kratos served as a god for over a decade, and we assume that gods don’t age. Thus, he’s probably older than he looks. Many players are also curious about Atreus’s age. Thanks to the game’s official novelization, we know that the boy is 11 during the events of God of War. The next game’s action is set approximately three years later. Thus, in God of War Ragnarok, Atreus is 14 years old.

How tall is Kratos?

It’s a difficult question to answer, as Kratos’ height seems to change depending on which game you’re playing. In the original God of War games, he appeared to be around 6 feet tall. However, in God of War III, he seemed to be closer to 7 feet tall. Atreus, of course, is much shorter than his dad. He’s only 12 years old in God of War (2018), so he’s probably not even 5 feet tall yet.

How to get to Asgard?

In God of War, you’ll unlock Bifrost, which lets you travel between worlds. This way, you can reach six out of the nine realms. Kratos and Atreus may visit Alfheim, Niflheim, Muspelheim, Helheim, Jotunheim, and Midgard. The other three realms, Asgard, Vanaheim, and Svartalfheim, remain unavailable. Hence, there is no way to get to Asgard in God of War (2018). Nonetheless, we assume that the grumpy Spartan will eventually reach Odin’s place in God of War: Ragnarok.

When did God of War come out?

The first God of War game came out on March 22, 2005, for the PlayStation 2. The most recent entry in the series, God of War (2018), was released on April 20, 2018, for the PlayStation 4. The PC players had to wait a little longer as the Windows version of the game hit the shelves on January 14, 2022. The release date of its successor, God of War Ragnarok, is November 9, 2022.

Should video games be hundreds of hours long?

What is the best armor in GoW 4?

You can find, craft, and upgrade your armor. However, it’s hard to indicate the best one because it depends on your playstyle. If you’re focused on dealing as much damage as possible, you should go for the Spartan Rage set. On the other hand, if you’re looking for more defense, you should go for the Tyr’s Lost Unity set.

How to use enchantments?

Enchanting your weapons and armor lets you increase Kratos’s and Atreus’s stats and gain additional benefits. To use an enchantment, you need to have an open socket in your equipment. You can find enchantments (common, rare, legendary, or epic) in treasure chests or buy them from Brok or Sindri. To use them, go to the menu, choose an item, and then select the Enchant option.

Who is Faye?

Faye is Atreus’ mother and Kratos’ second wife. Not much is known about her, except that she died giving birth to Atreus. Delivering Faye’s ashes to the highest peak in all the realms is the goal that starts Kratos’s and Atreus’s journey. Even though Faye is dead, her presence is felt throughout the game as the Spartan and his son often think about her. We don’t want to say more to not spoil the story for players who haven’t finished God of War yet.

How to get smoldering embers

Smoldering ember is a rare ingredient required for crafting some of the best gear in God of War. To find it, you have to travel to the realm of Muspelheim. In this fiery land, you can get smoldering embers by completing a series of trials and defeating a valkyrie called Gondul.

Who called the World Serpent?

We summon Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, after retrieving Mimir. Mimir’s head, to be precise. However, who blew the horn to call him again when Atreus was sick remains a mystery. Although there’s no definite answer to this question, there are some theories. For instance, some players believe it was Angerboda. She’s a giant, never seen but mentioned a few times during the game. Fortunately, she’ll appear in God of War Ragnarok, so there’s a chance we’ll finally find out who summoned Jörmungandr.

How to hand fight?

There are two ways to engage in hand-to-hand combat in God of War – with your fists or a weapon. To fight with your fists, press the square button (or the corresponding key if you’re playing on a PC). You can also use your weapons for close-quarters combat by pressing the R1 button. However, note that using Kratos’s axe or blades will consume stamina, so you have to be careful not to exhaust the protagonist.

Valkyries in God of War

The Valkyries are the toughest enemies in God of War 4. Fortunately, they are optional, so you don’t have to find them if you’re only interested in completing the main storyline. However, nine Valkyries are waiting to be defeated by Kratos. Each has unique abilities, attacks, and defenses, so you need to change your strategy for each encounter.

God of War games – from myths to adventures

Additionally, every Valkyrie drops a unique piece of armor, so it’s worth the effort. After defeating eight valkyries, you’ll have a chance to battle their queen, Sigrun. She’s perceived as one of the most challenging bosses in video games.

How many God of War games are there?

As of 2022, the main God of War series consists of six titles:

  • God of War (2005)
  • God of War II (2007)
  • God of War III (2010)
  • God of War: Ascension (2013)
  • God of War (2018)
  • God of War Ragnarok (2022)

Besides the main series, there are spin-offs and mobile games:

  • God of War: Betrayal (2007)
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008)
  • God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010)

There was also God of War: A Call from the Wilds (2017), a text-based adventure game playable on Facebook. It’s worth mentioning that GoW: Ascension is a prequel showing the events that led Kratos to become the gods’ champion. If you want to play GoW games in chronological order, that’s the game to start with. On the other hand, God of War (2018) served as a soft reboot that altered both the setting and gameplay. As a result, it’s a perfect opening for players who haven’t journeyed with Kratos before.

Why is Thor fat in God of War?

That’s a good question. In most mythologies, Thor is presented as a god with a muscular build. However, in God of War, he’s quite overweight, resembling the Bro Thor from Avengers: Endgame. There are two possible explanations for this. First, it could simply be an artistic choice. Second, it’s possible that the developers wanted to show that Thor is not as powerful as he used to be. This is supported by the fact that Mjolnir is much weaker than in Norse mythology. Either way, it’s an interesting take on the god of thunder.
