Release date

In April, Rebel Wolves held a stream and announced some essential information about the game, including its release date. The Blood of Dawnwalker will come out on September 3, 2026.

Platforms

The Blood of Dawnwalker will be available on:

  • Windows (PC),
  • Xbox Series S|X,
  • PlayStation 5.

It means that, like almost every recent technically advanced game, it won’t come out on 8th-generation consoles – Xbox One and PS4. The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 editions are also doubtful. Nonetheless, The Witcher 3 was released on Switch four years after its original premiere, so maybe The Blood of Dawnwalker would also finally grace the Nintendo ecosystem.

During an AMA session, the Rebel Wolves’ representatives stated that there would probably be a collector’s edition of the game. They also admitted that the studio would like to release free cosmetic DLCs that will allow for modifying the protagonist’s appearance.

Editions and Prices

The Blood of Dawnwalker is available in four editions – two digital and two physical

  • Digital
    • Standard Edition – 69.99 USD/EUR
    • Eclipse Edition – 79.99 USD/EUR
  • Physical
    • Day 1 Edition – 69.99 USD/EUR
    • Collector’s Edition – 199.99 USD/EUR

Here’s the official table with the content of each edition.

The Collector’s Edition is breathtaking, but so is its price. However, if you want to part with 200 dollars or euros, you probably won’t regret this purchase.

System Requirements

If you want to play The Blood of Dawnwalker on your PC on ultra settings at 4K resolution, you will need RTX 5090. Fortunately, players who are willing to make some visual compromises won’t need such an expensive GPU.

Developers

It’s hard to talk about The Blood of Dawnwalker without sparing a few moments on its creators. It’s the debut game of Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by numerous CD Projekt Red employees who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. First and foremost, the head of Rebel Wolves is Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, The Witcher 3’s director and head of production of C2077. Hence, The Blood of Dawnwalker has been compared to games with Geralt from the very beginning.

It’s also noteworthy that Bandai Namco Entertainment became the game’s publisher, so it should provide considerable funds for both development and marketing.

The Blood of Dawnwalker and The Witcher 3 – Similarities

Gameplay

The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action role-playing game with a third-person perspective, so comparisons with The Witcher 3 are natural. Moreover, both games offer dynamic combat and open worlds to explore.

Another gameplay similarity is the difficult moral choices that have a significant impact on the story. Decisions were essential in all three The Witcher games and have made many characters and quests unforgettable. The Bloody Baron from The Wild Hunt and the final encounter with Lethoin Assassins of Kings are only two of many examples. It’s a crucial feature for the Dawnwalker’s creators, so gamers have all the reasons to hope for a chance to shape their unique journeys.

Protagonist

In Rebel Wolves’ RPG, players will follow Coen, who, like Geralt, was a regular man but was turned into some kind of mutant. His adventure began when vampires turned him into one of their kind, but instead, he changed into a human-vampire hybrid who can walk in full sunlight but gains supernatural powers after dark.

World and atmosphere

The new RPG, like its spiritual predecessor, is set in a dark fantasy world based on medieval Europe and using folklore elements. Despite the obvious differences that we will examine later, players will explore similar locations such as vibrant towns, vast forests, and mysterious ruins that hide ancient secrets.

The Blood of Dawnwalker and The Witcher 3 – Differences

Story

The overall atmosphere of The Witcher and Dawnwalker seems very similar. However, Geralt’s saga is set in a universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski, while the upcoming RPG features an original plot and setting that mix historical and fictional elements. It will take us to 14th-century Europe, where we’ll explore Vale Sangora, an imaginary kingdom somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains.

The country has been haunted by wars and plagued by the Black Death. Moreover, vampires, who had previously hidden in the shadows, decided that the times of turmoil were the perfect moment to seize the power.

The story follows Coen, a man who was accidentally turned into a dawnwalker. As a result, instead of joining vampires, he becomes a strange hybrid, able to thwart their plans. He can use his supernatural skills to fight the bloodsucking enemies or put all his efforts into saving his family.

Time pressure

The Witcher and the overwhelming majority of role-playing games give players all the time in the world to complete the main quests. You know how it works. The very existence is hanging by a thread, the enemies from another dimension are invading the land, the king’s daughter is dying, and only you have a cure that can save her, but the protagonist can waste time fishing, gathering carrots, killing rats in the basement, or looking for a missing frying pan.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, the clock is ticking for Coen’s family. Hence, players must decide which side activities they want to sacrifice in order to save the protagonist’s loved ones. Apparently, letting them die is also an option, so it’s up to players what goals they want to pursue.

The living world that doesn’t wait for players’ actions can be one of the most interesting features of the Rebel Wolves’ debut release.

Unique mechanics

Many games use the day/night cycle, but The Blood of Dawnwalker seems to elevate it to a new level as the presence of the sun changes gameplay significantly. During the day, Coen is just a man, so he fights like an ordinary knight, using standard weapons. However, after sunset, he gains vampiric powers.

New Universe

During the Summer Game Fest in June 2026, Rebel Wolves presented a CGI teaser showing Coen living in the 21st century. While it was already known that the upcoming game is set in 14th-century Europe, Rebel Wolves officially confirmed that this release is merely the first chapter of a massive, multi-generational saga.

Future installments in the series will follow the long-lived vampires across different centuries, taking players to entirely unique historical eras, continents, and cultures as the narrative spans from the Middle Ages all the way to contemporary times. The developers reassured players that the planned sequels don’t mean that The Blood of Dawnwalker will end on a cliffhanger.
