2010's Alan Wake is a thrilling action-adventure game developed by Max Payne creators. Remedy Entertainment is a studio that really knows how to make protagonists that players can really care about. Moreover, the talented lead writer and creative director Sam Lake is a master when it comes to creating compelling and unusual stories. No wonder that Alan Wake has thousands of avid fans.
The first Alan Wake game allows players to follow the story of an eponymous writer who came to the town of Bright Falls to overcome his writer's block. Unfortunately, he must fight the much darker and powerful forces instead. The Bright Falls is inspired by Twin Peaks, and just like David Lynch's TV show, it hides weird secrets beneath its calm surface. It's also inhabited by a bunch of colorful characters, including former rockstars - the Anderson brothers. The game's ending leaves the door wide open for a sequel; hence, players have been looking for any signs of Alan Wake 2 since 2010. Fortunately, the waiting time will end soon.
The first Alan Wake game was followed by two DLCs called The Signal and The Writer and Alan Wake's American Nightmare standalone expansion. Later the writer returned as an easter egg in Quantum Break and a minor character in AWE DLC for Control that let players discover some new Bright Falls secrets. Thanks to those glimpses of hope, fans knew that Remedy didn't forget about the darkness-fighting writer; however, they've been waiting for something more – a sequel. Fans' wishes finally came true – at The Game Awards 2021, Remedy presented a trailer that confirmed Alan Wake 2!
The trailer showed that the game will cover events following Alan Wake's ending. According to Sam Lake, the sequel will be a survival horror game. This means that Alan Wake 2 would be significantly different from its predecessor since Alan Wake was an action game with horror elements. Alan Wake 2 release date remains unknown, but the game is planned to be released somewhere in 2023. The game should be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X, so we may expect stunning next-gen graphics that will make the story even more thrilling.
