The most anticipated video games of 2024

27 December 2023

In terms of good and awesome games, 2023 was extraordinary. Will 2024 be able to surpass it? It will be a difficult challenge, as the bar is set remarkably high. However, the list of upcoming releases is also filled with exciting titles. Let’s take a look at the most anticipated video games in 2024.

Alone in the Dark

  • Platforms: PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S
  • Release date: March 20, 2024

The remake of the classic horror game was initially scheduled for October 2023, but its developer (Pieces Interactive) and publisher (THQ Nordic) pushed back the premiere in order to avoid clashing with other major releases such as Spider-Man 2Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Alan Wake 2. They also wanted to ensure the well-being of the game and its reception.

The new Alone in the Dark will continue to provide a gothic setting and let players explore the eerie Derceto mansion. Like in the original, you can play as Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. The gameplay has been changed to meet modern standards. For instance, the obsolete fixed camera angles mechanic was ditched for the third-person perspective.

Avowed

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S
  • Release date: 2024

It’s an upcoming first-person action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. Avowed is set in Eaora, the world players may know from the Pillars of Eternity series. Players assume the role of an emissary from the Aedyr Empire who has to investigate a plague devastating the Living Lands region. With its colorful companions, compelling story, and vast character development options, Avowed may be the most-awaited 2024 game by RPG fans.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

  • Platforms: PS5
  • Release date: February 29, 2024

The second installment in the trilogy of Final Fantasy VII remakes won the title of the most anticipated game at both the Golden Joystick Awards and The Game Awards. The story continues the plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake, so you will meet Cloud Strife after they escape from the dystopian city of Midgar.

One of the most exciting features of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the inclusion of totally new cities that were not featured in the 1997 original. Furthermore, the developers have revealed that they were inspired by The Witcher 3 when creating the game’s side quests. The game also includes a deck-building mini-game. As a result, we hope for a brand new experience far exceeding the adventure we may remember from the original Final Fantasy VII.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

  • Platforms: PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date: January 18, 2024

Ubisoft will finally revive the legendary franchise. However, the publisher apparently doesn’t want to run two similar franchises: Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed. As a result, the upcoming PoP doesn’t resample its successful predecessors released in the 2000s. The series goes back to its roots, giving us a new side-scrolling platformer.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown introduces a new protagonist, Sargon, who evolves from a sword-wielding prodigy into an extraordinary legend. Players will have to master acrobatic combat, unlock new Time Powers, and harness unique super abilities to navigate the game’s intricate environments.

Ubisoft’s upcoming action-adventure game will take us to the late 17th century, the Golden Age of Piracy. It seems like an exciting alternative to Sea of Thieves. Particularly if you want to embark on a naval adventure alone because Skull and Bones offers a single-player campaign besides multiplayer mode.

One of the crucial features of Skull and Bones is its seafaring RPG elements. Players can sail the seas, battle other pirates, and hunt for treasure. So far, Ubisoft has postponed the game several times; hence, we keep our fingers crossed that the February release date is the final.

The upcoming Star Wars is a third-player perspective single-player action-adventure game set in an open-world blending shooter and stealth game mechanics. Star Wars Outlaws is set between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. However, it presumably won’t be the new canon equivalent of Shadows of the Empire that filled the gap between two episodes following all the main Star Wars cast, including Luke, Leia, Chewie, and Lando. Those characters may make a cameo appearance, but players will assume the role of a brand new protagonist, a skilled thief, Kay Vess.

Star Wars Outlaws promises to be an epic experience that will let players embark on thrilling adventures across multiple massive planets, including Tatooine. Each location offers a wealth of unique encounters, from vibrant cantinas to bustling cities teeming with life.
