Space Marine 2 is a sci-fi shooter video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. Players take on the role of a powerful Space Marine Titus and fight their way through levels filled with powerful enemies and intense battles.
Hack and slash extravaganza
Space Marine 2 follows its predecessor’s steps and will be a hack-and-slash game. The cult-classic PS3 shooter Space Marine still has lots of fans, so naturally, the announcement of the sequel made lots of fans happy. Those who know the universe of Warhammer 40K know it’s an action-packed, bloody, and violence-packed world.
Space Marine 2 is going to embody all of these features. Expect lots of brutal combat, over-the-top weapons, and hordes of bloodthirsty aliens. The players are going to once again follow Lieutenant Titus. The main hero will be once again voiced by Clive Standen, the actor we know from the previous game.
Along with Titus, we will visit Tyranid-ridden areas. The world does look visually stunning, especially the huge cities that mix gothic aesthetics with sci-fi. Developers made sure that the game feels like a true Warhammer 40 experience; not only in terms of gameplay but also locations.
Gameplay details and trailers
There’s little known about the story. Titus will have to face the Tyranids: an extremely powerful race of insectoid aliens who annihilate all life they meet on their way. Lieutenant Titus is not just a mere soldier: he belongs to the elite Ultramarines, a faction known to every Warhammer 40K fan.
The trailers revealed so far show what is cooking. The reveal trailer shows how powerful Space Marines are; as soon as they show up, Tyranids, probably the most feared force in the universe, hesitate. You’ll be able to become one of these super soldiers yourself and access the rich arsenal of insanely deadly weapons like the featured Chainsword or Boltgun.
A short gameplay trailer revealed a bit more about what the combat will look like. Space Marine 2 features brutal hack-and-slash combat in which players can use the aforementioned weapons and other powerful artifacts to lay waste to their enemies. You’ll also be able to use your bolter in ranged combat, and you can even combine different attacks into combos for increased damage. The Space Marine’s heavy armor will not only protect you from attacks but also let you fly short distances to traverse the battlefield.
Space Marine 2 will feature an extensive upgrade system where you can advance your character by unlocking new skills and abilities as you progress through the game. The developers promise that the system will do its best to let players create insanely powerful warriors, and this aim will be reflected in every aspect of the game.
Release date
Space Marine 2 was supposed to premiere in 2023. Unfortunately, it has been delayed several times and its final release date was set for September 9, 2024. We know that it will be released on major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately, it won’t be released on previous-gen consoles: Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Players can already pre-order a special collector’s edition that includes a resin statue, artbook, and steel book, as well as the DLC: Macragge’s Chosen.
