Homeworld 3. Release date, news, gameplay, and story

23 May 2023

Homeworld 3 promises a captivating experience with deep-space exploration and intense ship-to-ship combat, offering challenging and immersive gameplay. What is waiting for you in this sci-fi RTS game? Let’s find out!

Story details

Produced by Blackbird Interactive, Homeworld 3 continues the story of Homeworld 2, but its events take place about a century after the previous installment. After Karan S’Jet unlocked an ancient hyperspace gate, the entire galaxy opened up for exploration and trade. Unfortunately, with this event came a new danger: darkness, known as the anomaly. As Karan’s successor, the fate of the galaxy is in your hands. That’s everything we know about the game’s lore. As one of the similar space games, we might expect lots of secrets and mysteries on our way.

The game will feature upgraded art direction to make players feel even more immersed in the vastness of the cosmos. Players will hear the music of Paul Ruskay, the original Homeworld soundtrack composer. Homeworld 3 looks pretty great so far- if you haven’t done that already, take a look at some of the trailers. As the developers said, Homeworld 3 will introduce an “incredible sense of scale, destruction, and wonder”.

Gameplay Features

The core gameplay will still revolve around resource management, research trees, and fleet building. In addition, players will be able to customize their fleets by choosing from an array of ships and weapons. Different ship types let you tailor your fleet to your preferred playstyle, making for a more personalized experience. The game will also feature more detailed tactical combat, with multiple angles and objectives available to you in every battle. Players need to think quickly and strategically to outmaneuver their opponents and achieve victory.

There will be four distinct damage types (high explosive, energy, kinetic, and ion). Each of them is going to boast its own visuals and, of course, effects on every unit. Damage impacts in-game models, elevating the level of authenticity and immersion. Your precious ships will carry battle scars, making the gameplay even more realistic!

Homeworld 3 is a real-time strategy game in which players command powerful spaceships and engage in spectacular combat. With a three-dimensional camera, players can view the action from all angles, creating exhilarating opportunities for clever maneuvers. They must also contend with unpredictable and dangerous phenomena such as particle storms and asteroid fields that test the mettle of even the most seasoned commanders.

Homeworld 3 ships

For now, we don’t know much about the ships that will appear in the game. So far, we had a chance to see a new Capital Class Vessel, the Hiigaran Carrier. You can read more about it on the dedicated blog post and see pieces of art that show the process of making this new vessel. We are also looking forward to new ships and other new elements that will appear in Homeworld 3.

Multiplayer

Homeworld 3 offers an all-new co-op multiplayer mode that enriches the game with refreshing features. By seamlessly blending real-time strategy with elements of a roguelike, this mode guarantees a unique experience with every playthrough.

If you want to put your skills to the test, you’ll probably want to take part in exciting PvP games. Of course, you’ll be able to hone your abilities in AI skirmish matches before playing against human opponents in 1v1, free-for-all, or team battles.

Release date and platforms

The release date for Homeworld 3 remains uncertain, just like a lot of other games this year. Initially delayed, the game is now expected to arrive sometime in the first half of 2023. Unfortunately, no specifics have been given yet, requiring players to summon up patience if they wish to play. While Homeworld 3 will launch exclusively on PC, there’s still hope for console players to join the ride. Stay tuned for official updates on the game in the coming months.
