We have believed that nothing is certain except for death, taxes, and a new FIFA game every year. The sudden end of EA Sports and FIFA is forcing us to reconsider this opinion. Fortunately, the long-lasting football franchise is going to get a successor. Let’s summarize everything we know about EA Sports FC 24.
Update: July 27, 2023
The FIFA 24 replacements
After more than two decades of successful partnership, FIFA (International Association Football Federation) and EA Sports shocked the world by announcing they had split up due to a lack of agreement on the new deal. This business divorce meant that the new FIFA game wouldn’t be released. Instead, both sides chose to develop their own football games. The Federation apparently hasn’t found a new partner yet; hence, their video game project remains a mystery.

On the other hand, EA Sports didn’t waste time and declared that since FIFA 24 would not be released, it would launch a new football franchise called EA Sports FC 24 or EA FC 24 and FC 24 for short. It’s still uncertain if the developer will publish a new EA Sports FC game annually or decide on a more game-as-a-service approach. We think that releasing a game and then updating it for more than one year would be an interesting and welcome turn of events because, so far, players have had to buy a new installment every year, each time starting their football journey from scratch. Fortunately, we can finally say more about the first installment in the brand-new football series.
Release date
All the football fans keep asking the same question: when will EA Sports FC come out? Since the release of FIFA 2000 in 1999, each subsequent installment has premiered either in September or October. We had assumed that EA Sports would want to maintain this tradition to utilize the habits players have developed over two decades.
And we were right. EA Sports announced the release date of EA FC 24 in July. The game will come out on September 29, 2023. It will be available on all major gaming platforms: Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
Leagues and competitions
The FIFA series is known for dozens of licensed leagues, clubs, and competitions, including the Champions League and Copa Libertadores. It was possible due to as many as 300 different agreements. Consequently, the termination of the EA Sports – FIFA partnership doesn’t mean that the new game won’t feature real players and teams. FC 24 boasts that it features over 19,000 licensed players and 700 teams from 30 leagues.
The Redmond giant has already disclosed the names of licensed leagues and federations in their upcoming title. Here are the most important ones:
- Premier League (Engalnd),
- LaLiga (Spain),
- Bundesliga (Germany),
- Serie A (Italy),
- Ligue 1 (France),
- Eredivisie (the Netherlands),
- Primeira Liga (Portugal),
- K League 1 (South Korea),
- MLS (USA),
- SPFL (Scotland),
- Women’s Super League (England),
- National Women’s Soccer League (USA),
- D1 Arkema (France),
- CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation).
Furthermore, players will have a chance to participate in some of the most prestigious international club competitions, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Conference League, UEFA Women’s Champions, CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sudamericana, and CONMEBOL Recopa.

Moreover, as part of a mass-marketing campaign, EA Sports became the new title sponsor of the Spanish Primera División. As a result, one of the top European leagues has changed its official name to LALIGA EA SPORTS while Segunda División has been rebranded LALIGA HYPERMOTION.
Ultimate Team
We don’t know the complete list of EA Sports FC game modes, but EA has already assured everyone that Ultimate Team will appear in the FIFA 24 equivalent. It’s no surprise since players love building their virtual clubs, and FUT has been the most popular FIFA mode for a long time. The noteworthy thing is that, for the first time, players can have both male and female footballers in one squad. Ultimate Team Evolutions is another new feature. It allows for improving some players’ attributes, thus turning a benchwarmer into a superstar. To evolve a footballer, you must complete certain tasks, so this mechanic seems very similar to Evolution Cards from the NBA 2K series.
Similarly to FIFA 23, FC 24’s Ultimate Team features hero cards created in cooperation with Marvel. EA Sports has already revealed the first five players: Alex Scott, Bixente Lizarazu, Carlos Tevez, Wesley Sneijder, and Gianluca Vialli.
When it comes to other game modes, Career, Pro Clubs, and Volta Football have also been confirmed.
