The best games of 2022

28 December 2022

Although many titles were delayed, this year surprised us with many great games. Let’s take a look at the best productions that were released in 2022 and see why they deserve to be called the best games of this year.

Elden Ring

There’s no denying that Elden Ring deserves to be called the best game of 2022—and not only because it managed to snatch The Game Awards’ most important prize. FromSoftware’s newest title almost immediately gathered an incredible audience that fell in love with this revolutionary soulslike game. Why? Elden Ring is a wonderfully written production introducing many new features to the classic soulslike genre. Moreover, it amazed us with an original story based on George R. R. Martin’s work.

Despite FromSoftware’s signature difficulty level, Elden Ring has a number of convenient features that make the game easier than other FS productions. The boss encounters will still challenge your skills, but players are free to choose where their path leads. It’s a fantastic title for anyone who wants to get into soulslikes!

Elden Ring release date: February 25, 2022

God of War Ragnarök

God of War is a classic title that requires little introduction. At the conclusion of the Norse era of the game, Ragnarök once again proved that Santa Monica’s title is incredibly popular. It sold 5.1 million copies just in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling game in PlayStation history.

It has everything a good RPG needs: a fantastic story with memorable characters (like Kratos or Atreus), exciting gameplay mechanics, and puzzles, not to mention outstanding character and creature design.

God of War Ragnarök release date: November 9, 2022

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight

The newest expansion to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft turned out to be a huge success. After Shadowlands’ mediocre performance, Dragonflight seems to be slowly fixing the mistakes of its predecessor. With a new race-class: Dracthyr and a different approach to questing, this DLC might fix WoW’s position in the MMORPG genre.

Moreover, the story focuses more on exploration than another end of the world, and that seems to be well received as well. Will dragons help the franchise? The chances are high! If you want to start your adventure with WoW, now is a good time to do so. Leveling is now much faster and smoother, so you won’t spend months catching up.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight release date: November 28, 2022

Stray

Stray is a game we love talking about. This title, made by BlueTwelve, proved that you don’t have to be a huge studio to produce amazing games. Stray is an indie title telling the story of a cat living in a cyberpunk-ish city.

Since the player controls a cat, they are given a fun opportunity to explore the city like these agile animals. Thanks to these exciting mechanics and a polished story, Stray was nominated for Game of the Year and won The Best Indie Game category alongside Best Debut Indie Game.

Stray release date: July 19, 2022

Tunic

Tunic is a wonderful indie game that reminds us of all the great things about old games. Focusing on puzzles and a top-down perspective, Tunic can be quite a challenging experience. What’s more, the game does little explaining, so you’ll have to figure out many things yourself.

So, while the game won’t be easy, it definitely will be rewarding! With its difficulty level and original design, Tunic is one of the best indie games released this year. If you are looking for an old-school experience combined with beautiful, modern graphics, Tunic is a game for you!

Tunic release date: March 16, 2022

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

CoD is an old franchise with many installments that are being released regularly. That’s why players are often skeptical about new releases from this series. Call of Duty MW2 is, however, a great game not only for the fans of this franchise. It does feature a short but exciting single-player campaign and diverse multiplayer modes.

With the multitude of game modes, everyone can find something for themselves. If you are looking for a solid FPS experience, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the title for you! The game features free-to-play elements too: Warzone and DMZ modes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 release date: October 28, 2022

Need for Speed Unbound

The legendary car racing game went through a refreshing redesign in 2022. The game dropped realism and went for a new art style that resembles Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animation.

This new approach proved to be successful, although not everyone became a fan of the new style. Nevertheless, Need for Speed Unbound is an incredibly fun experience for both new and veteran players. If you are tired of hyper-realistic sports games, Unbound might be a game you are looking for!

Need for Speed Unbound release date: November 29, 2022

Neon White

This fast-paced indie game is definitely one of the best titles released in 2022. Focused on speedrun-like gameplay, Neon White boasts an original character design and storyline. As a hunter, you’ll have to enter heaven and defeat demons on each level, as well as form relationships with other characters.

The game has been nominated for a few awards, including Best Indie Game in The Game Awards and PC Game of the Year in the Golden Joystick Awards. Neon White’s innovative gameplay has been noticed by many, so if you are looking for an original title to play, you should definitely check Neon White out.

Neon White release date: June 16, 2022

Bayonetta 3

This iconic Nintendo franchise came back in 2022, bringing back the fan-favorite Bayonetta. The game was praised especially for its signature gameplay mechanics, which never fail to deliver. No wonder why Bayonetta 3 became the Best Action Game of this year.

Despite a few controversies concerning the main character, Bayonetta 3 is a fantastic title that will entertain you with action-packed combat, and the iconic fighting sequences the game is famous for—including the characteristic over-the top animations.
