Spooky adventure in Massachusetts
Redfall features a large and unique-looking open world that looks taken straight from a Halloween horror movie. Don’t get us wrong: it does look great! Redfall is the biggest open world from the Arkane Austin studio. Players will explore the world of Redfall by investigating the city’s dark secrets, fighting their way through supernatural forces, solving puzzles, and discovering hidden areas.
The developers assured you that Redfall’s world will be a lively place, changing each time you play. Moreover, the map will be enriched with so-called psychic spaces. Upon entering these spaces, players will have to destroy the vampiric nests to complete the challenge. Your activities can, however, attract unwanted attention.
As you explore the game’s world, you’ll encounter a variety of characters, from survivors and citizens to supernatural beings. It’s great to see another take on one of the most classic creatures: vampires. These scary beings are quite diverse: some of them look like modern Nosferatus, and some boast completely different, more heinous looks.
Gameplay details
Since Redfall is produced by the same studio that released such titles as Dishonored and Deathloop, we might expect some quality gameplay. It’s a narrative-driven action-adventure game with stealth elements, and you’ll be able to apply your skills in combat, stealth, and traversal to progress through the game.
You’ll be able to choose your own play style, and there will be multiple weapons and supernatural powers at your disposal. Players can choose from four playable characters with different skill sets. Each hero boasts unique abilities, thanks to which they will be able to combat the vampiric threat.
- Remi De La Rosa: former Navy member combat expert and engineer. She created her own robotic sidekick: Bribón,
- Jacob Boyer: a former sniper accompanied by a raven who aids the team in battle,
- Devinder Crousley: a cryptozoologist who uses his vast knowledge to build special traps and gadgets,
- Layla Ellison: a biochemical engineering student capable of telekinesis. She performs mage-like skills by manipulating, moving, and pushing objects.
Players will have to use their skills, but there will be some room to customize this experience. Loot won’t be limited to given characters, so you’ll be able to tailor the arsenal of your weapons to your needs. Speaking of guns, there’s some variety to them: except for regular weapons, we will have access to more unusual guns like the UV beams. You’ll be also able to customize your weapons and characters with skins. There’s a lot of content to discover, so you won’t be bored while playing Redfall.
Can you play Redfall alone?
There’s good news for those who are looking for a fun co-op game. You can play Redfall solo or with your friends to create the ultimate vampire-hunting team. Don’t worry if multiplayer games aren’t for you: Redfall will be perfectly playable solo. You won’t be accompanied by AI-controlled sidekicks, though, so you’ll have to rely on your skills alone.
Release date and platforms
When is Redfall coming out? Initially, developers wanted to release the game in 2022, but it shared the fate of many other postponed titles like Starfield. Now we know that Redfall will premiere on May 2, 2023. Players may purchase the game on PC or Xbox, as well as on Game Pass.
The bad news is that Redfall won’t come to PlayStation consoles: at least not on the release day. Moreover, Xbox players will be able to run the game in 30 FPS mode: as developers said, the 60 FPS mode will be added in later updates.
