5 reasons to play remakes and remasters

Now Trending 27/04/2021

Many gamers complain about the number of remakes, remasters released nowadays. However, there are reasons to give the new versions of old hits a chance.

They’re playable

One of the bigger problems with old games is that they might not run on modern computers and consoles. For instance, it’s impossible to run a PS1 game on a PS5 console. Also, PC have significantly changed over the years. Many older technologies, such as some DRM, are not supported by the current Windows versions; hence, it’s impossible to run a game without making some magic. Even though GOG makes a gigantic work to bring old games for use on modern computers, remakes and remasters are often the only way to play classics. On the other hand, some new technologies turn out to be perfect for almost forgotten genres like point and click adventures. For instance, thanks to mobiles, series such as Broken Sword and Monkey Island are popular again.

Remakes might be better than the original

It may sound like blasphemy, but the original is not always better. Sometimes new versions are more polished and have more content. The most recent example is Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… This updated version of Replicant is getting better reviews than the original game. Also, Mafia or Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition has more content and fewer bugs than when these games were released. They’re certainly worth playing, even if you’ve finished the originals multiple times.

See what all the fuzz was about

https://www.gamivo.com/product/oddworld-new-n-tastySome old hits are unplayable due to technical issues. And others look terrible or have an interface that today’s players can find hard to understand. Remasters solve these problems. Therefore, we can get a flawless experience, playing some ageless classics. This is the best way to get to know some old games that have revolutionized genres, set standards, and are considered milestones that every player should know. Thanks to the remakes/remasters, hits such as Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Resident Evil 2, or Final Fantasy VII are much more accessible to new players.

Meet your old friends

Some say that it’s risky to watch movies or play games which one loved back in the days. We say it’s more like meeting an old friend. Obviously, some games are better in our memories than they actually were. However, a great story remains marvelous even if it’s 100 years old. Thanks to remakes and remasters, this story can get new clothes. Remake can also be a great way to fit an old story into a rebooted series, just like Tomb Raider: Anniversary did.

Show the devs that you care

Buying a remaster of your favorite game shows the developers and publishers that it still has a solid fanbase. Thanks to this, even an old game can get new content or a sequel. For example, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition got a new DLC called Lords of the West this January and should have another one (Dawn of the Dukes) this Summer.
