Witcher 4: our predictions, hopes, and wishes

Now Trending 22/03/2022

We are more than excited after the official CD Projekt RED announcement of Witcher 4! As The Witcher 3 is still considered one of the best games ever, the expectations are quite high. On the other hand, after the not-so-successful release of Cyberpunk 2077, no wonder some doubts appear. What can we expect from this upcoming monster-slaying title? Who would we like to see as a protagonist? What would we change in comparison to the previous installment? Check out our thoughts and ideas below!

Medallion in the snow

In response to neverending questions: Will there be a Witcher 4? CD Projekt RED has finally announced it officially: The Witcher: A New Saga Begins is currently in development! However, that’s pretty much everything we know for sure for now. The announcement featured a picture of a witcher medallion covered in snow. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice that this is not Geralt’s medallion of the School of the Wolf. Some consider it to be the symbol of the School of the Cat, but to our mind, it’s more similar to a lynx (look at those ears). It’s not that odd if you think about CD Projekt RED’s Polish roots and know the fact that lynxes live in that country.

Unreal Engine 5

There’s one thing worth noticing – while the previous installments of The Witcher franchise were developed with REDengine, the next, as well as the future titles from the studio, will use Unreal Engine 5 (or potential future versions), thanks to the strategic partnership with Epic Games. That will help the developers create a dynamic open world with the highest quality graphics.

The New Saga

The title suggests the beginning of a “new saga”. What could it mean? Well, some see in this a potential for the development of Ciri’s part of the story. In fact, there’s a lot of content in the books, which the games have not covered yet. Others look forward to a custom character creating feature possibility that would introduce a whole new protagonist of players’ choice. It’s too early to speculate, but we find the idea of custom characters a huge change that would have an enormous impact on the whole franchise. It would, for example, increase the chances of including the multiplayer mode in the game. But do we really want the story of the White Wolf to come to an end?

Some of the players predict another possibility – the prequel would be something to let the players immerse even more in the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski. There are actually plenty of things that could be shown: from the Trial of the Grasses to the youth of Vesemir, to the past of Yennefer and Geralt, or maybe the mysterious relationship between Geralt and Triss? The potential is enormous.

The Witcher 4 release date

There’s no information about the release date, but we wouldn’t be such optimists to predict the game to be out in the near future. The release date will be even harder to predict, as, after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the studio said it wouldn’t be sharing any trailers or details until much closer to the premiere.

As it is just the beginning of the story of the new installment to The Witcher franchise, we’ll surely upgrade this post when we gather more information. Make sure to revisit our blog for the fresh news of CD Projekt RED’s upcoming title. In the meantime, feel free to recall the previous adventures of Geralt of Rivia.
