The Game Awards for the game of the year/best adventure game – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

FromSoftware once again delivering top-notch quality of gaming experience. This time set in XVth century Japan, Sekiro puts us right into the whir of fight, vengeance, betrayal and vicious confrontations. Game set heavy focus on combat with impactful elements of stealth, adding on the top a fresh and relatively new mechanic of being able to resurrect after initial death. Not only the thrilling gameplay set in unsettling environment, but the level of details and precision put into them made the final result possible. Remedy Entertainment claiming this award over Death Stranding might be surprising, but well-deserved without a doubt.

The Game Awards for the best audio design – Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Audio in shooter games is an essential part, which really dictates the whole experience for player. Sounds of whistling bullets, crushing walls, bones being broken, and stunning explosions were all possible to find in the latest Activision and Infinity Ward product.

The Game Awards for the best community support – Destiny 2
Activsion winning in another category. This time for their dedication in helping players, creating ever-lasting bounds between player base and developers. Taking their responsiveness and transparency into another level earned them this very award.

The Game Awards for the best family game – Luigi’s Mansion 3
Goofy and friendly atmosphere with not demanding difficulty of the gameplay made this game a great pick-up for lazy, family Sundays. Cooperation mode and the Scarescraper mode, which allows up to 8 players enjoying the game together, explain why Luigi’s Mansion from Nintendo received this award.

The Game Awards for the best fighting game – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Another one for Nintendo. This time for their next version of a classic Smash Bros. series. Choose from more than 70, well-known and famous Nintendo characters and prove that you will be the last one standing In this fast-paced and exciting fighting game.

The Game Awards for the best fresh indie game/The best independent game/ The best narrative in game/ The best RPG Game – Disco Elysium
Yeah… That’s a lot for one game. But it is totally deserved as Disco Elysium set a new benchmark in the RPG market. Deeply-written, multi-dimensional story, ambiguous and controversial world as well as great character development and insanely gigantic focus on decision making gave Disco Elysium number one when it comes to the numbers of awards this year. Congratulations to independent and small studio ZA/UM for creating such gem, that will no doubt become an instant classic in RPG field.

The Game Awards for the best game direction/ the best score and music – Death Stranding.
Everyone probably
expected more from Kojima’s Death Stranding. Even though it didn’t receive that
many rewards as Disco Elysium it’s still great artistic experience, painted
with interesting, and deep music. Kojima’s
outstanding creative vision of this game is still one of the best creators
decision of this year.

The Game Awards for the best game for impact – Gris
Under this very mysterious category there is even more mysterious game. Gris had won an award for “ a thought-provoking game with pro-social meaning and massage”. In this 2D platformer game we play the role of a young girl who is struggling with her past and must overcome it. As we progress the game, the more mysteries are unfolded and at the end, we reach the truth.

The Game Awards for the best multiplayer game – Apex Legends
Well-known battle royale game finally received a praise that deserved for. Set in futuristic world of Titanfall – Apex Legends offers us 11 different champions to choose from. Nicely balanced map, a huge arsenal of weapons and abilities create varying playstyles.

The Game Awards for the best ongoing game – Fortnite

Whatever you think of Fortnite you have to admit that it is really successful game, which gathers an insanely big fanbase. Constant patch notes, ever-changing map, countless of weapons, and finally the decision to make Fortnite 2.0, sum up to receiving this award
The Game Awards for the best racing game – Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

It’s a remake of famous Crash Team Racing game from 1999. New engine, fresh graphics, new numerous tracks and carts, but still the same good, old gameplay known from the original game.
The Game Awards for the best VR/AR game – Beat Saber
There is nothing more enjoyable than satisfying slashing of red and blue boxes to the great beat and catchy rhythms. That’s what probably persuade the jury and the community to the final decision and crowning Beat Saber as the best VR game.

The Game Awards for the best strategy game – Fire Emblem: Three Houses
We are closing the list with another Nintendo game. And it’s another iteration of the famous Fire Emblem turn-based strategy game. The gameplay stays classic and unchanged, which is fine for us, because there was nothing to change from previous games. It’s still a solid and enjoyable Fire Emblem experience
