Release date
The Test Drive series debuted in 1987 and was followed by over a dozen sequels and spin-offs. Unfortunately, no new installment has been released since 2012’s Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, developed by KT Racing and published by Nacon, will finally awaken the franchise from its decade-long slumber. When? We can’t say because the exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Initially, the game was supposed to premiere in September 2022 but was delayed for 2023 and then again for early 2024. The game will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Gameplay
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown takes us to Hong Kong Island, faithfully recreated at a 1:1 scale. It means that players have over 600 kilometers of roads to race on. The island offers a racing environment as diverse as streets among skyscrapers and a jungle.
You will join one of two rival clans, the Street and the Sharp. The latter see themselves as an elite characterized by sophisticated taste, while the former love to stand out and show off, representing underground racing culture. Regardless of which group you’ll ally with, your ultimate goal is to win the Solar Crown, the most prestigious competition arranged by a mysterious organization called Radiant. Apart from participating in different types of races, you will build your reputation by completing other missions, such as convoys and transports.
To be honest, we can’t predict what driving type the game will offer. On the one hand, some announcements promised a realistic handling model. On the other, the developers stated that Solar Crown will retain the series DNA, and the franchise is known for its arcade gameplay. Hence, we would assume that the upcoming installment will also provide players with pure racing fun rather than a realistic driving model. The game features single-player modes, but there is a strong emphasis on its MMO and social elements. As a result, the game will let you meet other players. You will interact with them using a customizable avatar that you control after getting out of your car. Apparently, Solar Crown delivers a lot of activities outside the driver’s seat.

A roster of playable cars is the heart and soul of every racing game. The complete list of available vehicles hasn’t been revealed yet. However, according to the already published information and trailers, we will be able to drive a vast range of luxury sports cars from the most prominent manufacturers, including:
