Fallout TV show: Release, cast, and review

12 April 2024

The long-awaited Fallout TV show finally landed on Amazon Prime Video. I was a little afraid, but fortunately, those are good times for post-apocalyptic adaptation. First, The Last of Us won the audience’s hearts, and now Fallout can replicate this success. Let’s take a closer look at the show and its cast.

Fallout TV show – release

Fallout premiered on Amazon Prime on April 10, 2024. This time, the service surprised many fans by releasing the whole season at the same time, like Netflix usually does. You should appreciate it if you’re a binge-watcher or hate waiting an entire week to see the next episode of a series you’re invested in.

On the other hand, releasing episodes weekly helps build hype. It also gives the audience time to focus on a particular episode, such as discussing and finding Easter eggs. Moreover, fans love theorizing and guessing the outcome, which is impossible when you don’t have to wait for a series finale. It’s also safe to watch all episodes as fast as possible to avoid spoilers that will inevitably flood the internet.

The first season of Fallout consists of eight episodes:

  1. The End
  2. The Target
  3. The Head
  4. The Ghouls
  5. The Past
  6. The Trap2024
  7. The Radio
  8. The Beginning

Fallout TV show cast

Unlike The Last of Us, Fallout TV show doesn’t tempt us with some A-list stars in its cast. Instead, it gives young actors Ella Purnell (Lucy) and Aaron Moten (Maximus) the spotlight. Walton Goggins, who portrays The Ghoul, is probably the most known member of the main cast.

It doesn’t mean that Amazon’s Fallout lacks familiar faces. In supporting roles, we can see Matt Berry, Michael Rapaport, and Kyle MacLachlan, the famous agent Cooper from Twin Peaks. Here’s the almost complete cast of the Fallout TV show:

Fallout TV show review

I’ve got great news – the Fallout series is compelling and well-made. Moreover, it’s enjoyable for both die-hard Fallout fans and people who have never seen a deathclaw. Season wasteland explorers should appreciate the setting and tone that reflects the Fallout game’s atmosphere. Even though you will follow the original story, you’ll see iconic elements from the series created by Interplay, including Pip-Boy, Nuka-Cola, and stimpaks. The show also captures the brutality and gritty humor typical for the games.

Newcomers won’t have problems understanding the Fallout world, as we can slowly discover it by following diverse characters. There’s a vault dweller, Lucy; a young Brotherhood of Steel adept, Maximus; and a ghoul named The Ghoul, through whose eyes we witness the apocalypse. Their backgrounds are extremely different, but their paths have to cross. Flashbacks also help the audience understand the retro-futuristic world of Fallout, where we have advanced technologies, yet design and fashion look like they are stacked in the 50s. And speaking of the 50s, I have to mention that the soundtrack is filled with songs from the 1950s and 1960s.

If I had to point out some disadvantages, it would be the not-so-convincing look of wasteland creatures. Also, some costumes and props look a little bit plastic. I’m particularly not a fan of the way knights in power armor move. It seems too light and comfortable, reducing the aura of majesty and power I remember from the games. However, those are only minor flaws. Amazon’s Fallout is an adaptation that one of the best RPG series deserves. Recently, we have gotten exceptional video game adaptations, including The Last of Us and Arcana. After the first few episodes, I believe that Amazon’s Fallout may be the final proof that the curse of video game adaptations has been finally broken.
