Star Wars: Bounty Hunter targets PC after 20 years

09 July 2024

Star Wars fans have recently received several remaster versions of video games set in the universe of the Jedi, Sith, and Gungans. However, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter deserves special treatment, as this great action-adventure title will finally be widely available. Better late than never, I guess.

Bounty Hunter: Release Date and Platforms

Originally, LucasArts released Star Wars: Bounty Hunter in late 2022. The game was available only on PlayStation 2 and GameCube consoles. Moreover, it debuted in North America first. Star Wars fans from the PAL region had to wait some additional months. In 2019, the game was included in the PS2 Classics collection for PS4. Now, Jango Fett finally gets the chance to hunt bounties in many more systems. On August 1, 2024, the remaster developed by Aspyr will premiere on:

  • Nintendo Switch,
  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5,
  • Xbox One,
  • Xbox Series S|X,
  • PC.

Bounty Hunter: Gameplay

This year, we’ve already received remasters of Dark Forces and the classic BattleFront installments. However, the classic versions of all those games had been obtainable before. Bounty Hunter is a different animal. Since it has been available exclusively on the six-generation consoles for years, many fans haven’t even heard about the game. Therefore, it may require an introduction.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is a third-person action-adventure game that lets you play as Jango Fett. The best bounty hunter in the galaxy is one of the fans’ favorite characters; hence, following his adventures is something many players have craved. In the game, you will have access to Jango’s wide arsenal, including blasters, darts, and flamethrowers. His trademark jetpack will be at your disposal, too.

Identifying individuals with a bounty on their heads is an interesting part of the game, as it requires using a scanner in Jango’s Mandalorian helmet. The recognized fugitives can be either killed or immobilized, so you can decide how you want to deal with your targets. Collecting bounties is optional but allows for earning additional credits that players can use to unlock some additional content. Moreover, finishing each level gives players access to new pages of Jango Fett: Open Seasons. Open Seasons is a comic book set between The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, so reading it gives even deeper insight into the story of the Mandalorian mercenary. I keep my fingers crossed that this feature will return in the remaster.

Bounty Hunter: Story

The game is set before Episode II: The Attack of the Clones. Jango accepts an assignment from Darth Tyranus, who wants Komari Vosa, a Dark Jedi, eliminated. During this mission, players can witness many events that have consequences in the movie. For instance, you will learn how Jango befriended Zam Wesell, how he got Slave I, an iconic Firespray gunship that served both Jango and Boba Fett, and how he became the template for the clone army.

Even though Bounty Hunter is now a part of Legends, so its events can be altered by some new releases, it is a fun adventure that no Star Wars fan will regret embarking on. I only hope that the game will run smoothly and won’t suffer from any technical issues.
