Downloadable content is a great way to help keep a game fresh and engaging. However, every gamer has experienced the disappointment of DLC that only added superficial or cosmetic items and did nothing to further actual gameplay.
The following are some of the best DLCs in gaming, as voted on by gamers, that won’t disappoint. Bear in mind that much of what was released as DLC often comes standard with the games now.
Bloodborne

Fans voted The Old Hunters DLC the best for its difficulty level, terrifying locations, and truly unique bosses. It also provided new armor, weapons and other assorted items. The bosses were fascinating and offered some of the most difficult gameplay.
The game has more than 47 different DLCs and the fan favorite is Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. It’s silly and fun for gamers, makes good use of humor and fantasy cliches, and provides players with an emotional payoff at the end.
The series had over 10 DLC opportunities that added elements ranging from more loot and locations to characters and quests.
The game originally released three DLCs – Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfire. The content provides several hours of additional gameplay, along with characters, equipment and maps. The DLC won a VGX award for best DLC.
Fans were ecstatic with all four of the DLCs for the game that enhanced the plot, story and gear. They featured highly memorable characters and maps, with some gamers declaring New Vegas the best of the Fallout series.
The Ballad of Gay Tony DLC was a breath of fresh air and showed a different side to some of the characters. It was an outlandish and indulgent romp through the game that let players perform a myriad of just-for-fun activities and explore the madness of the environment. The DLC won a VGX award for best DLC.
The Undead Night won a VGX award for best DLC and the game placed a new spin on the zombie genre. It was a single campaign to clear out zombie hordes, along with silly side quests, such as the one for a photographer. Perhaps the most heartbreaking and emotional element was the sasquatch quest that left players wondering about their own humanity.

The DLC to the game was called Left Behind and fleshed out Ellie’s backstory. It was an excellent piece of storytelling that was pertinent, emotional, heartrending, and added new dimension to the character.
The Blood and Wine expansion was the all-time favorite for The Witcher 3. It added an additional 10 hours of gaming time and brought the story to a close.
