Monster Hunter World has been created and published fully by famous and respected Capcom – fathers of such games like Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry 5, Dragon’s Dogma or Mega Man 11. As we can see they are experienced company, which is also visible on their newest of the projects – Monster Hunter World. Previously playable only on handhelds now the whole series is centered around new generations of consoles and naturally PCs.
No doubt – the best feature of Monster Hunter World is… well its world. The areas we wade through are stunning, very detailed and what’s most important – they differ from each other. Ranging from humid and floral jungles, tranquil and peaceful riverside surrounded by plains, harsh and dangerous, filled with lava mountain areas, ending on dry and deadly deserts. The variety is here and we have no limitations of discovering it. As the game doesn’t have fixed and linear story, we are completely free when it comes to exploring. We set the direction and either we follow it or set new unexpected paths for hunting.
The size of the world is much bigger than its predecessor and the feeling of its open nature is created very well. Don’t hesitate and explore “Brave New World”!
The main axis of the game mechanically wise is naturally set around slaying monsters. We encounter dozens of them in our open world. The monsters and the battles are designed very uniquely – each monster require a specific strategy and approach and sometimes a determined set of weapon that allows us to kill it. Our enemies carry a lot of different crafting materials. The stronger the enemy the more rare and special the material is. Then we can use them in complex but very accessible and understandable crafting process. The nice feature that adds more realism to the game is fact that some enemies are based around different elements – e.g fire, lighting. If we received such materials we can enhance our weapons with fire or lighting damage. The same goes for protections in our armor sets.
If we are already talking about weapons and armors – well, they are essentially as much important as the monsters. They are tools for developing our character and the game story. As the Monster Hunter World is heavily focused around combat, player receives hundreds of weapon combinations each with different style and approach. It only depends on you wheter you want to focus on one and heavy strikes with enormous hammers or maybe you decide to pick two swift and deadly short-swords. Want to mix offense and defense – choose a transformable shield. Range is your nature? No problem there are bows and crossbows and even some explosive firearms or even special hidden mines. You are not forced to use one predetermined set of weapons – be flexible and adapt to your current enemies. Master one of them or become a Jack of all trades.
