3 Highly Anticipated Games for 2021

09 December 2020

2020 is drawing to a close and it’s been a huge year for gaming. With the release of the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X, 2021 is opening up to be an exciting year for gamers. Improved graphics, more immersive worlds, higher resolutions and framerates, lightning-fast speeds, and games backed by experienced and well-funded developers – gaming next year will be a whole new experience.

But a console is only as good as it’s games, right?

There are many new and exciting games planned for release in 2021 and here’s three to keep your eyes out for.

God of War (Untitled, 5th Instalment)

God of War saw a change of scene back in 2018, with the series protagonist, Kratos, moving away from the Greek world of bronze and wine to the Nordic world of stone and mead. A new story, environment, and gameplay, the fourth instalment of God of War was the highest rated and well-received game in its already amazing franchise – and what’s best, they left you craving more.

The end of 2018’s God of War gave the perfect setup for a sequel and players can expect more of the axe-swinging, God-pummelling, and boy-scowling game they fell in love with. After a teaser trailer came out in September 2020, sources speculate that the title will be “God of War: Ragnarok”. In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the event which leads to the end of days and the deaths of all the Norse Gods. This is certainly an event for Kratos.

Although there is no official release date yet, Sony has stated that the game will be released in 2021 for the PS5.

CD Projekt has been working on Cyberpunk 2077 for over 4 years, since the release of the Witcher 3 DLC: Blood and Wine. Set in the futuristic and dystopian world of Night City, players will be able to traverse 6 distinct districts as a customisable mercenary called V.

Developed by a team of around 500, starring actor Keanu Reeves, and with over 150 hours of main storyline, Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to set the bar sky-high for action RPGs. The official release is currently 10 December 2020, however, the release date for the next-gen consoles will be sometime in 2021.

CD Projekt has mentioned it will be a robust update, and considering the graphics and specs involved, this means it will be well worth the wait for next-gen consoles.

Dutch developers Guerrilla Games stunned the gaming world with their release of Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. This is an action RPG where you play as Aloy, an outcast and hunter. Set in the 31st century, society has reverted to tribalistic clans while animalistic machines overrun the environment. The game won many awards and is praised for its story, gameplay, and graphics.

Horizon Forbidden West
is the next instalment for the franchise and set straight after the events of the first game. Aloy must journey to the Forbidden West to find a cure for a plague that ravishes her homeland. Her journey will take you to new environments and ecosystems to discover, as well as new enemies to challenge you.

There’s no official release date yet, but it’s expected sometime in late-2021 for both PS4 and PS5.
