Tokyo Game Show 2023, held from September 21 to 24, was another event that let developers and publishers announce their upcoming releases and shed some light on already revealed video games. Let’s wrap up the most exciting news we learned during the event.

Dragon’s Dogma II

Capcom shed some light on its upcoming action RPG, a sequel to 2012’s Dragon’s Dogma. The developer showed a 9-minute-long gameplay with commentary from the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno. He revealed that although Dragon’s Dogma II is a single-player title, the player is not alone. Up to three AI-controlled companions called Pawns may join players on their journey. He also revealed four starting vocations (classes):
- Fighter – a melee combat specialist wielding a sword and a shield.
- Mage – this vocation can use long-distance attacks as well as healing and support spells.
- Thief – this class is armed with two daggers, allowing for lightning-fast strikes.
- Archer – this vocation can deal with distant and aerial dangers. Apart from regular ammunition, the archer may use exploding and blinding arrows.
It’s noteworthy that the vocation can be changed freely during the campaign. Moreover, as the story progresses, you can choose advanced vocations, including the Magick Archer and Mystic Spearhand. The Dragon’s Dogma II release date hasn’t been disclosed yet. However, we know that it will be available on PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

We finally know that the collection of three visual novels starring Phoenix Wright’s protegee Apollo Justice will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2024. The Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy compilation includes:
- Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney,
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies,
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice.
All games offer high-resolution graphics and contain pre-order bonuses and DLC episodes previously sold separately.
Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi

Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi is an action-adventure game inspired by the works of renowned Japanese animation studios: Studio Chizu and Studio Ghibli. Players will control two protagonists: Lili, a Guardian who specializes in martial arts, and a magic-wielding monk named Sadi. Only combining the skills of both characters can let them prevail and face the mysterious Void that threatens their home. On their adventure in The Wrath of Aferi, players will fight enormous monsters and explore dungeons that resemble the classic Zelda game. And speaking of the Nintendo classic, we believe that the game’s graphics were inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Street Fighter 6 – A.K.I.

Street Fighter 6 came out in June, but Capcom will expand its flagship game for a long time. At Tokyo Game Show 2023, Street Fighter fans had the opportunity to learn more about the second DLC character. The upcoming fighter is a brand new warrior called A.K.I. She’s a student of F.A.N.G. As a result, she copies her master’s abilities, such as using toxins to poison opponents. Also, her pale-white skin reveals that she’s no stranger to venomous substances. A.K.I. is included in the Year 1 Ultimate Pass DLC.
Hotel Barcelona

Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro, the director and designer of Deadly Premonition, and Goichi “Suda51” Suda, who was behind the No More Heroes series, revealed the gameplay of their joint game. Two famous Japanese developers will bring us Hotel Barcelona, a parodic platformer slasher that lets players fight all kinds of bizarre monsters and twisted bosses designed upon classic horror movie tropes. The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
My Lovely Empress

GameChanger Studio had good news for all the fans of unorthodox management games. The sequel to My Lovely Daughter and My Lovely Wife is called My Lovely Empress. It will take players to a fictional kingdom based on Asian mythology. You will assume the role of Emperor Hong, the ruler of the Crimson Empire. The game is non-linear and offers numerous paths leading to your ultimate goals. Besides the usual struggles of running an empire, such as diplomacy and resource management, you can ask Yaoguai for help. Each of those mysterious creatures offers different traits. Moreover, you have to make some crucial decisions. First of all, if you’ll be willing to sacrifice your subjects’ souls to sacrifice your beloved empress.
Persona 5 Tactica

Just two months before the release of the Persona spin-off, we learned more about its gameplay. Persona 5 Tactica seems more dynamic than other releases using turn-based combat. The battle footage reveals that placing your characters and using cover is crucial, as attacking an uncovered enemy grants your unit an extra turn. However, finding protection doesn’t make you invulnerable because even a fully covered character can be hit with magic attacks.
State of Play and Nintendo Direct: Biggest reveals
When it comes to the story, the game follows the story of Joker and other Phantom Thieves of Hearts, who must find a way to escape from the alternate reality where they were displaced during the events of Persona 5. Persona 5 Tactica will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
