At Blizzcon 2023, Blizzard unveiled an ambitious plan for the future of World of Warcraft, announcing three World of Warcraft expansions that will form a grand narrative arc called the Worldsoul Saga.
A new saga awaits
The World of Warcraft news announced during Blizzcon 2023 were quite special. With Chris Metzen coming back, fans hope that the iconic MMORPG will go back to its days of glory.
Instead of one DLC, Blizzard announced that there will be three expansion packs that, released gradually, will together create the Worldsoul Saga. Connected by a story, these DLCs are going to introduce tons of new content: new allied races, new zones to discover and, of course, a plethora of raids and dungeons. Without a futrher ado, let’s take a look at what the details concerning these three World of Warcraft expansions.
World of Warcraft: The War Within
This expansion will take players back to familiar locations in Azeroth but with a twist. Players will explore the underground world of Azeroth, where they will encounter new races, new dungeons, and a new threat that could endanger the very existence of the planet. Those who dare to enter the underground kingdoms will meet a very familiar foe: the Nerubians. This DLC will feature quite interesting new zones that will delve deeper and deeper into the ground. This will be reflected by the actual placement of the zones: instead of large areas scattered on the map, players will discover them bit by bit as if traveling in a spiral. It’s interesting, isn’t it? Other notable features include:
- New playable allied race: Earthen, titan-forged race of stone dwarves,
- New zones to discover: Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, Azj-Kahet
- Delves: endgame content that involves instances with epic loot
- Warbands: account-wide system for your alts
- Hero Talents
- Dynamic flying for in-game mounts
World of Warcraft: Midnight
This expansion will bring more liguht on the culture of blood elves and bring players to Quel’Thalas in the Old World. This DLC, as one can guess, will focus on the Void. Many players eagerly awaited this theme: perhaps we will finally learn more about the motifs and nature of one of the most powerful force in existence.
World of Warcraft: The Last Titan
This expansion will bring the Worldsoul Saga to a close with a climactic battle against a familiar foe. Players will return to Northrend, the frozen continent that was once home to the Lich King, to confront the true threat to Azeroth: the Old Gods, ancient entities of immense power who have been imprisoned beneath the ice for millennia.
