There are numerous games out there that fall under the military shooter genre and Battalion 1944 is definitely making waves in the category. Created as an homage to the classical military shooters of the past and designed as a different alternative for gamers that are looking for something with a little more oomph, Battalion 1944 aims to push the shooter category forward by incorporating the fun and charming elements that are missing today in most games.

Design elements

Bulkhead Interactive, the developer behind FPS Battalion 1944, claims that they were inspired greatly by FPS games of the past during the early drafting stages of the game. Older releases of FPS games in the past tended to have more appealing components that are missing in many of today’s AAA games. When the team gathered to create Battalion 1944, the objective was to design a capable World War II shooter game that consisted of “all the great and impressive bits” that are missing from the early FPS games such as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor.

For instance, some of the components the team was trying to avoid include the ‘press to complete an action’ component that is found in many games today. According to the team, whenever the gamer is forced to utilize the spacebar to perform a task, it takes control away from the gamer and the game ends up playing for the gamer, instead of allowing the gamer to control the game.

The premise of the game

Battalion 1944 is a World War II multiplayer shooter that was developed in the spirit of older and much beloved FPS’s like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. In it, gamers navigate different European locations highly equipped with weapons that are designed to look their real-life counterparts like the Kar98 and the M1 Garand. For gamers to climb up the leader board, they have to annihilate enemy combatants.

Unlike most other games, players have no abilities to depend on during their campaigns-just their pure skill is required to survive. If you are a player that boasts of precision aiming skill, you will find it easy to rise to the top of the Battlerank system. Players can also compete against others in seasons as a means of earning various rewards.
