Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a must-have for players who love complex stories and choice-driven games. We wrapped up everything about the new Max Caufield’s adventure.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure: Release date and platforms

Life is Strange: Double Exposure was among the games revealed During the Xbox Showcase at Summer Game Fest in June 2024. It will come out on October 29, 2024. However, players who pre-order the Ultimate Edition can play the first two chapters two weeks before the official release. Life is Strange: Double Exposure is available on PC, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure: Story

So far, two studios have developed Life is Strange games. The French Dontnod created the original game and Life is Strange 2. The other sequels were developed by Deck Nine Games. The same company is behind Double Exposure. Deck Nine did great work with LIS: Before the Storm and LIS: True Colors; hence, I’m confident about the new game’s quality.

However, there are some potential hitches. Double Exposure continues the story of Max Caufield, the protagonist of the first Life is Strange. If you’ve played it, then you know that there are two contrasting endings, determining the fate of Max’s best friend, Chloe Price, and her hometown, Arcadia Bay. I believed that Deck Nine had to pick one of them as the canonical. Apparently, there was another solution.

“There’s no canon ending in our book to the first game. Double Exposure will respect both endings in Max’s thoughts, her journal, her SMS, her interactions with other characters, what she opts to reveal about her past to her new friends, it’s all reflective of that final choice,” revealed the game’s director, Jonathan Stauder.

Players decide Chloe’s and Arcadia Bay’s destinies during early conversations in Double Exposure. On one hand, players can be glad that the game reflects their choice. On the other hand, it means that neither Chloe nor Arcadia Bay can play a significant role in the story. Consequently, the game takes us to a brand new place, Caledon University, where Max works as a photographer. She has renounced her supernatural powers and lives a normal life with new friends. She’s particularly close with Safi. Unfortunately, the girl is murdered. It provokes Max to investigate their death and reach for her unnatural ability again.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure: Gameplay

I had a problem with Max’s rewind power. She often was nosy and did morally questionable things to learn people’s secrets. Then she just rewound time to avoid the consequences of her doings. Fortunately, it’s not an issue anymore, as after Safi’s death she learns that her old ability doesn’t work anymore. Instead of rewinding time, she discovers a new skill – shifting between two parallel realities. In one timeline Safi is dead, in the other, she’s still alive. She will try to use this power to solve the mystery and maybe prevent the tragedy.

Like all Life is Strange games, the new installment will be driven by players’ choices. Hence, you can complete it multiple times to see, how your decisions change the story and characters.
