For those not familiar with Overwatch® 2, the title will provide fans of the series with an opportunity to join together in an epic adventure featuring competitive play in a new era of heroes. Facing overwhelming odds, gamers take on challenges around the globe.
Overwatch® 2 is a rather unconventional sequel and something of a hybrid. Whether you’re new to the game or an established fan of the series, there are some things you need to know about Overwatch® 2.
Blizzard hasn’t determined an exact release date, but some indications are that it could be in Feb. 2021. The publisher has given no solid launch date other than to say the title will definitely be forthcoming. Versions have been planned for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox. It seems highly likely that it will also be offered for the Xbox X and PlayStation 5.

One of the first things to know is that if you’ve played Overwatch®, you’ll get to keep all the collections accrued there and they’ll move to Overwatch® 2. That includes all your player icons, skins, stats, emotes, loot, sprays and weapons.

Blizzard announced there will be two new characters to begin with and intends to introduce more in the future. One of those is Sojourn, the first Black female playable and the first Canadian hero. She’s named in honor of the famous African-American women’s rights activist and abolitionist, Sojourner Truth. The second playable will be Echo.

In Overwatch®, Winston sent an illegal message recalling all former agents to reunite to end the machinations of Null Sector before the villain destroys the world. In Overwatch® 2, gamers will be treated to short films that show how each Overwatch® member responded to that call. Blizzard will also give you more backstory and history on the characters.

Playing Overwatch® 2 means you’ll also be engaged in side-by-side battles with those playing Overwatch® in the PvP story missions. Story missions were the most frequently requested option by fans. Blizzard listened and is accommodating that desire. Gamers can also play in PvE Hero Missions in which they can choose among any character to play against AI. Blizzard has indicated it will change missions frequently to maintain interest. The title will also include a Push game mode that’s essentially a tug of war in which teams compete to complete the same objective. It will be playable in competitive, quickplay, and Overwatch League.

Players of Overwatch® and Overwatch® 2 will both play on the same map. Blizzard announced that there will also be two new maps forthcoming, but no other specifics.

You’ll be able to level up your favorite characters and empower them with what will be called Talents. It allows for players to customize characters in ways that are more in line with a player’s gaming style.
