The Last of Us Part 2 is going to go down as one of the most memorable game releases ever. For some, it’ll be from its divisiveness. For others, it’ll likely be from how expansive and detailed the anticipated sequel is. This is because the devs put a lot of TLC into small nuggets scattered across the world. We’ve got 10 of these Easter Eggs here for you, so grab a chair and let’s have a look.
PS3s Everywhere in The Last of Us Part 2
Starting from Ellie’s room and across the rest of the game, you’ll find several PlayStation 3 consoles – the original game’s home. Specifically, in Ellie’s house, the PS4 predecessor is accompanied by familiar titles Jak & Daxter, Uncharted 1, and Uncharted 2. All developed by Naughty Dog with Neil Druckmann at the director’s helm.

Throwback Giraffe
One of the most powerful moments in the original TLoU involved a stuffed giraffe. You can find a callback to this moment in The Last of Us Part 2. After finding shelter from the storm with Dina, have a look in the children’s room. There will be a stuffed giraffe on a small shelf, which Ellie will make a note of in her journal.

Two Daughters
The TLoU series has always given us a strong indication of Joel and Ellie’s bond. This is reinforced in The Last of Us Part 2 when you visit Joel’s house. There you will find a neatly propped-up photo of him and his daughter, Sarah, during her first soccer game. This framed photo sits neatly next to one of Joel and Ellie, which tells of how he sees her as a daughter.
Old Equipment
As you explore the ruined streets of Seattle, you can access a military checkpoint. There, you’ll find an old infection scanner, which Ellie will muse that she hasn’t seen in a while. This is The Last of Us Part 2, telling us that all forms of centralized government in the area are gone.
Future Days
The song that Ellie and Joel sing together opens with the line “If I ever were to lose you,” which is from the song Future Days. This song was written and performed by the classic rock band Pearl Jam in their album Lightning Bolt. A poster announcing the album’s release date can be found in The Last of Us Part 2 in the music store.

Deus Ex Callback
One of the most famous codes in gaming history is from the Deus Ex series, 0451. You can use this code in The Last of Us Part 2 to open a safe in downtown Seattle at Gate West 2. Bonus fact: this was also the door code for developer Looking Glass Studios, developers of Thief and System Shock, which also used the code.
