Anno 1800 is an another iteration of well-known and warmly welcomed Anno games series. Nothing changed when it comes to creators and publishers which are respectively Blue Byte and Ubisoft. Once again the game is exclusively available on Ubisoft digital distribution platform- uPlay.
Anno 1800 was created to honor the 20th anniversary of the first Anno game – Anno 1602: Creation of New World, and it’s gameplay could be expressed as a true comeback to the roots of the games, originally set by Anno 1602.
Atmosphere and setting
Anno games, no matter which one, are always focused on one historical period ( with an exception of Anno 2070, which takes place in near future and Anno 2205 – the most futuristic edition of the game). Ranging from the dusk of middle-ages in Anno 1404 or exploring The Brave New World during early renaissance and going further with it in both Anno 1503 and 1602. Now it is high time to finish what was started in Anno 1701 and dive deeply in the European industrial age of our civilization. Anno 1800 takes place in the most revolute times of our western history when it comes to the development and progress. No other age changed our history as a society than this one. Industrialization is at its peak and there are no breaks for it. Become either an idealistic innovator, focused on science or a capitalist and exploiter which aims only for the profit and money. Decide whether you want to be a conqueror of new lands and colonies in South America and Africa or a liberator, who joins forces with the enslaved ones.
Mechanics of Anno 1800
Anno 1800 is a perfect example of a classic city-building genre of games. Starting from scratch you climb up a ladder of progress and development. Gather the resources, manage your people from varying social classes, create a well-balanced connections through your entire city. Set an appropriate level of taxes, depending on your playstyle, but don’t forget about the needs of your workers or they will start a labor revolution. Choose your economic policy, engage in numerous trade deals via the naval trade routes. There are plenty of possibilities waiting for you to be explored. As the game is set in such polarizing, different and colorful age, it is all up to the player how and in what way they will operate their city. And not only the main city… Game allows you to govern oversea territories, which are under constant harassments of your opponents. It is up to you whether you want to defend them and as a result create a great trade points or give them up and focus on your capital city.
Up to 100 buildings are available to raise. From the basics ones – storages, marketplaces, sawmills ending in more complexed such as manufactures, steam-supported factories, giant harbors or well-equipped city halls and shopping centers.
Gameplay possibilities of Anno 1800
As always there are three ways of playing an Anno game. Well-executed, deep and engaging single player campaign, single player open and free mode without a story and with more available resources, and of course competitive, pvp centric, multiplayer game mode (up to 4 players)
