Zenless Zone Zero 3.3: New Agents, Mech Combat and the Honkai: Star Rail Crossover

20 October 2026

Zenless Zone Zero 3.3, “Journey to the Sky,” launches on October 21, 2026. It brings two new S-Rank Agents, pilotable combat mechs, a Halloween event lineup and the confirmation of Honkai: Star Rail characters joining the game in version 3.4. Here is everything confirmed so far, plus what is still up in the air.

What Are Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail?

A quick primer if you are new here. Zenless Zone Zero is an action RPG with roguelike elements from HoYoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact, and it launched worldwide on July 4, 2024. It takes place in the near future in New Eridu, a city that carries on after a catastrophe tied to the Hollows, and you play as a Proxy who links the city with those dangerous zones.

Honkai: Star Rail comes from the same studio but plays very differently. It is a turn-based space fantasy RPG that launched on April 26, 2023, and it sends you on an interstellar journey through places like the Herta Space Station, Jarilo-VI and the Xianzhou Luofu.

The patch is split into two banner phases. Phase 1 starts together with the update and runs until roughly November 10. Phase 2 is expected to open on November 11. Exact banner end dates had not been published in the material we reviewed, so treat the Phase 2 date as an expectation rather than a promise.

Phase Expected window New Agent Rerun Agent W-Engines
Phase 1 October 21 to about November 10 Phoenix Reffaella (Fire, Anomaly) Velina Airgid (Wind, Anomaly) Plume of Rebirth, Joyau Doré
Phase 2 November 11 (expected) to about December 1 Severian Lowell (Wind, Attack) Norma Hollowell (Fire, Stun) Incarcerating Grip, Chief Sidekick

Lore Primer: Krampus and Public Security

Phoenix and Severian come from two very different corners of New Eridu. The Krampus Compliance Authority is an internal oversight body inside TOPS. Its job is to make sure TOPS companies follow the rules and stay within ethical limits, and when someone crosses the line, Krampus steps in, often harshly enough to scare others into compliance. Phoenix is one of its listed members, alongside Banyue, Zhao, Dialyn and Promeia.

New Eridu Public Security is the city’s police faction, responsible for the safety of New Eridu and its residents. Severian is a senior commissioner there, and the Metropolitan Order Division is described as operating under him. His brother Seth works in another unit, the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team led by Zhu Yuan.

Phoenix Reffaella: The Fire Anomaly Agent Who Refuses to Stay Down

Phoenix Reffaella headlines the first half of Zenless Zone Zero 3.3. She is an S-Rank Fire Anomaly Agent and holds the number two spot on the combat side of the Krampus Compliance Authority.

How Phoenix Plays

Her core skill, Nirvana, revolves around a debuff called Sear. When an enemy is already suffering from an Anomaly, Sear lets the Anomaly damage that follows land critical hits. That is a real twist for the role, because Anomaly damage normally does not crit.

The second pillar of her kit is Rebirth. After taking a lethal hit, Phoenix gets back up with a full health bar instead of dropping out of the fight. How often this can trigger, and whether a cooldown applies, was not covered in the announcement material we went through, so that part remains unconfirmed.

W-Engine, Outfits and the Velina Rerun

Her signature S-Rank W-Engine is Plume of Rebirth. Phoenix also arrives with two alternate outfits, The Illness Called Life and Daydream Complex, which are sold together as a bundle with a 30% discount for a limited time. Filling out Phase 1 is the return of Velina Airgid, an S-Rank Anomaly Agent, along with her W-Engine Joyau Doré.

Severian Lowell: A Wind Attacker Built Around Counters

Phase 2 of Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 brings Severian Lowell, an S-Rank Wind Attack Agent and a senior commissioner at New Eridu Public Security.

How Severian Plays

His core skill, Endless Breeze, lets him dodge an incoming attack automatically and answer it with a counter. Successful dodges and certain skills fill up Energy, which then powers long chains of wind slashes. In practice, he rewards good timing over rotation memorization.

Early kit breakdowns from community guides describe a resource called Flow Breath and an enhanced attack named Shadow Hunt of the Azure Wind.

W-Engine, Outfit and the Norma Rerun

Severian’s signature S-Rank W-Engine is Incarcerating Grip. His outfit, a work suit called Solemnly Impeccable, goes on sale once his banner opens. In the same phase, Norma Hollowell, the S-Rank Fire Stun Agent, makes a comeback together with her W-Engine Chief Sidekick.

Phoenix or Severian: Who Should You Pull?

Nobody outside HoYoverse has final numbers yet, so think of this as a decision framework rather than a verdict. It is built on the confirmed kits and on simple roster logic, while early community analysis leans on beta data that may still change.

  • Pull Phoenix if you already run Anomaly teams (Velina is the obvious partner), you lack Fire coverage, or you want a built-in revive as a safety net in tougher content. Early analysis suggests her crit effect works best with several Anomaly Agents on the squad.
  • Wait for Severian if you are missing a Wind attacker, enjoy counter-based play, or would rather see how Phoenix performs live before spending anything.
  • Skip both if your roster already covers those roles. The Velina and Norma reruns are the alternative picks.

One thing to keep an eye on: the announcement describes Rebirth as a full-health revive, while beta data reportedly pointed to lower HP and a long cooldown. Real values should be visible in-game on October 21, so waiting a day before pulling for Phoenix is a safe move.

Mech Combat: Piloting Lindverne’s Creations

The biggest gameplay change in Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 is mech combat. During story missions, the Proxy takes control of High Ambitions Corp. combat mechs, which come into existence through Lindverne’s Karma Core ability, Genesis Reconstruction.

The mechs can switch between a melee mode and a ranged mode. After an EX Special Attack or a well-timed dodge, they can unleash a stronger laser attack. Explosives and heavy punches are part of the toolkit too, and they help with puzzles as much as with fights.

Regular combat in the game is built around a squad of Agents that you swap between on the fly, so a single piloted machine with two distinct modes is a noticeable change of pace. HoYoverse has said the mech gameplay will stay in future versions, so this is more than a one-chapter gimmick.

The Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 Story: Trouble Above Roscaelifer

The new chapter, also called “Journey to the Sky,” continues Season 3. The sky island of Roscaelifer is under lockdown, and the only route into Booastrum leads through Quietude Isle, whose skyport has been occupied. The Proxy, known as Phaethon, has to get onto the island through that skyport, and the plot digs into the dark secrets of the three Sunbringers and their powerful Karma Cores. Phoenix and Severian are forced to cooperate along the way, and the story asks whether the two can put their differences aside.

To see where it picks up, recall version 3.2. According to story recaps, Phaethon traveled to a zone inside Roscaelifer for treatment, while Claret and Roxy chased a stolen shipment of Porcelloy. The metal turned out to have been built into a rogue mech, and the fight ended with Lindverne, one of the Sunbringers, joining forces with Claret. The trail also pointed to a covert research facility linked to Helios Academy and suggested that TOPS had quietly moved into Roscaelifer.

Halloween Events and Mini-Games

Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 has a clear Halloween flavor, and the limited-time lineup is long:

  • Night of Supernatural Tricks: a themed event tied to the businesses of Lumina Square.
  • Spooky Funhouse Tales: a Halloween virtual-reality game at the HIA Club, built around scaring off unwelcome guests. Rewards include the Angels of Delusion outfit, an A-Rank W-Engine and Proxy accessories.
  • Enigma of the Labyrinth: Spooky Trial: a seasonal run in the Hollow challenge mode, with a Devilboo instructor named Master Devil running a three-round test.
  • Cyber Miracle Healer, On Duty!: a maze puzzle in which you repair broken Bangboo.
  • Trails of the Hobbling Crow: a detective-style hunt for evidence about who attacked Crowe.
  • Repair! Drifting Art: a picture puzzle about putting scrambled artwork back together.

The double-drop events for Area Patrol and Combat Simulation are back as well, which is good news if you are farming materials.

Free Rewards, Quality-of-Life Upgrades and Platforms

The version’s check-in events hand out 10 Encrypted Master Tapes in total, which you spend on character banners, and 10 Boopons, which you spend on Bangboo pulls.

Quality-of-Life Changes

  • Team recommendations: the Fairy suggests lineups, strategies and short briefs based on your roster, and you can apply a lineup to a preset with one click.
  • Video tutorials for selected Agents.
  • Challenge tips on the squad setup screen for certain combat modes, with quick access to guides.
  • Clearer Inter-Knot Reputation rewards, with better reminders about what the next level unlocks.
  • Discord integration: from October 21, linking your account syncs your in-game activity to your Discord profile.

Crossover with Honkai: Star Rail: Kafka, Robin, Ellen Joe and Astra Yao

The 3.3 Special Program included a trailer for the collaboration between Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail. In the teaser, Robin hums a tune until Kafka cuts in with her signature “Listen” command.

What Is Confirmed

Both games are trading characters, and both pairs will be playable in their new home:

Direction Characters Version
Honkai: Star Rail to Zenless Zone Zero Kafka and Robin Zenless Zone Zero 3.4
Zenless Zone Zero to Honkai: Star Rail Ellen Joe and Astra Yao Honkai: Star Rail 4.8

Who Are the Crossover Characters?

In Honkai: Star Rail, Kafka is a Stellaron Hunter on the Nihility Path who deals Lightning damage over time, and she is the first playable character seen in the game’s opening. Robin is a famous singer from Penacony on the Harmony Path, a Physical-element support who boosts allies’ damage and lets them act more often.

On the Zenless Zone Zero side, Ellen Joe is an S-Rank Ice Attack Agent who builds up Flash Freeze Charge to unleash attacks that inflict Freeze, while Astra Yao is an S-Rank Ether Support Agent who raises her teammates’ ATK and Crit DMG.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

There are no official release dates for either version yet. The second phase of Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 is expected to wrap up around December 1, so if the usual patch rhythm holds, version 3.4 would land in early December. That is our estimate, not a HoYoverse date. Outside estimates place Honkai: Star Rail 4.8 around late December, which is also unofficial.

The kits, roles and elements of Kafka and Robin in Zenless Zone Zero have not been announced either. Some outlets guess at an Electric Anomaly role for Kafka and a Physical Support role for Robin, but that is speculation for now.

Is Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 Worth Jumping Into?

If you have been on the fence, this patch gives you plenty to try without spending anything. The mech chapters, the Halloween events and the 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons from the check-in events are all free, and the Fairy’s new team recommendations make it easier to build a lineup from whatever roster you already have.

On the banner side, Phoenix and Severian are two very different S-Rank Agents, one built around crit-capable Anomaly damage and a revive, the other around dodges and counters, while the Velina and Norma reruns give you extra options if you missed them the first time.

Version 3.4 is already lining up Kafka and Robin from Honkai: Star Rail, so players coming from that game have a reason to take a look too. The update is available on PC (Steam included), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android, so you can pick the platform that suits you. And if you decide to spend on a banner, the Zenless Zone Zero top-up page on GAMIVO offers Monochrome packs and the Inter-Knot Membership.
