World of Warcraft: Midnight first impressions. Is the good old WoW back?

05 March 2026

Fans have been eagerly waiting to see where the Worldsoul Saga takes us next. With the announcement of World of Warcraft: Midnight, the excitement is palpable. Players are heading back to the old world, specifically the beloved mystical forests of Quel’Thalas.

Returning to the heart of Quel’Thalas

Nostalgia hits hard when you step foot into the reimagined zones of the elven kingdoms. The developers have completely overhauled the region to meet modern visual standards. The sun-drenched spires of Silvermoon City shine brighter than ever before, bringing back fond memories of the Burning Crusade era. Flying through the Eversong Woods on your favorite mount feels entirely new, yet wonderfully familiar. Coming back to other zones, including Hammerfall, Light’s Hope Chapel, Scarlet Monastery, or even Blackrock Mountain, is a huge trip down memory lane, and lots of players are waiting for more.

Welcome home

Perhaps the most prominent feature of the new expansion is the long-awaited housing system. This is an addition that thousands of players have been requesting for years, and it finally gives them a chance to own a personal space within the game world, which they can customize and decorate to their liking.

The new system, one of the biggest in WoW’s recent history, offers a surprising amount of freedom. Players can freely place and resize objects, allowing them to create unique interiors in various styles. While the number of decor items can be overwhelming, the straightforward system makes decorating interiors and exteriors a fun and relaxing activity. Hunting for decor items is a fun thing to do in itself, as the vendors are scattered all over Azeroth.

Customization hits a new level

For years, players were limited by a lack of detailed character customization options. The introduction of the Haranir, a new allied race, finally addresses this long-standing issue. This reclusive race, introduced in the War Within expansion, is now playable and boasts incredible customization options.

What will happen next?

While the gripping storyline of the upcoming Midnight expansion holds considerable promise, particularly with its emphasis on nostalgia, the introduction of player housing, and engaging, rewarding quests, it’s far too soon to rest assured. The initial impressions are positive, but everything truly depends on what happens next in the development and post-launch support cycle.

Midnight feels like a strong start, setting a great atmosphere and weaving a compelling narrative that has captured the community’s attention. However, veteran players are cautiously optimistic, waiting to see if Blizzard can maintain this level of quality and engagement in the months following the launch, ensuring the expansion has lasting appeal and doesn’t falter after its initial release.
