Outriders by acclaimed Polish studio People Can Fly is one of the hottest premiers of 2021. The ultimate mix of a shooter and an RPG brings us to the planet of Enoch. Is this adventure worth a shot? Let’s see what we know about Outriders.
The Outriders are humanity’s vanguard sent to the planet of Enoch to prepare it for colonization. They can fight using not only advanced weapons but also unique powers.
There are four classes of the Outriders:
- The Devastator – prefers close-range combat. Controls gravity
- The Trickster – prefers close-range combat. Manipulates time
- The Pyromancer – prefers mid-range combat. Uses fire-based attacks
- The Technomancer – prefers long-range combat. Uses gadgets
Many gamers complain that there are only remakes, remasters, and sequels nowadays. Outriders is a whole new IP with its own original universe and heroes. Therefore, if you’re looking for something new, it could be the game for you.
We’re living in a world full of microtransactions. Almost every game tries to charge us for skins, characters, or horse armors. Sometimes microtransactions can break the balance. For example, Battlefront 2 had to change its whole monetization system because it was heavily criticized by gamers. People Can Fly promised that Outlanders don’t feature any microtransactions nor games-as-a-service elements.
Developers assured that Outriders is a story-driven game. It means that our bloodlust won’t be the main reason to roam the Enoch and exterminate hordes of enemies. The lead writer, Joshua Rubin, revealed that the tale is inspired by such classics as the Heart of Darkness novel and the Apocalypse Now movie. We believe it could be one of the main advantages of Outriders.
You can play Outriders as a single-player experience or in a team of up to 3 players. Hence, it could be a good choice whether you prefer playing alone or with your friends. You’re probably curious why there are 4 character classes, but the team is limited to 3 members. The devs explained that 4th player causes too much chaos on the battlefield.
Outriders can be played on almost every platform. There are versions for Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and Stadia. And here comes the good news – the game offers full cross-play support. Therefore, you can play on PC while your teammates use consoles.
It should take 25-30 hours to finish the main story of Outriders. However, it should take much more time to complete all the side quests and post-campaign content.
If you’re not sure if you’re going to like Outriders or whether it runs on your rig, you can try the free demo. It covers around three hours of the actual story. Your decisions, characters, and progress can be carried to the full version of the game.
People Can Fly already developed or co-developed some well-received shooters such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, or Gears of War: Judgment. It bodes well for Outriders.
