The game developers and creators Curve Digital and Kuju have finally announced the release of Narcos: Rise of the Cartels for PC and consoles. The thrilling and hugely popular American crime drama that gained major success on the streaming service Netflix, has been transformed into equally gripping and captivating gameplay. The game is set within the intense landscape and turmoil of Colombia’s drug scene in the 1980s. It follows the engaging synopsis of season one of the hit TV show and also follows the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal, as America begins to take notice of his drug empire. Corruption, crime, influence, politicians, law enforcement, violence and war are at the forefront of this game.

The Game Play and Story Setting

From the get-go, you are able to choose from two different strike teams or campaigns. Whether allying with the perceived ‘good guys’, the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) or siding with the Medellin Cartel themselves. When siding with the DEA, your task is to help in toppling the criminal enterprise that is beginning to grow out of control whilst utilizing special training and tactics. Alternatively, as a member of the Medellin Cartel, your task is to simply help the Narco Drug empire grow, develop and expand, whilst being guided and watched by El Patrón.

Your team can be formed from a mixture of very class-specific roles. Skills can be upgraded and enhanced as you play a vital role in the violent drug war. Notably, your gameplay actions will have consequences to the storyline, creating an enigmatic and thrilling course of events.

Combat

Expect the combat fights, scenes and scenarios to be taken to the next level. Combat is fast-paced and extremely tactical. As mentioned above, your actions in-game will have consequences, so you must enter a combat situation with awareness and consciousness of your next moves and how it can, and will, affect the development of your campaign successes or failures. Units possess an ability to move one after the other, or alternatively, multiple times in one go, creating a faster pace. Kill shots and counteractions can be made at critical moments to allow maximum damage to the enemy.

Location Settings

Narcos Rise of the Cartels tries to be as authentic as possible to the original TV series. To those who have watched the Netflix series Narcos, some of the gameplay settings will spark a vast amount of familiarity. You are able to explore recognizable settings, buildings and locations and play a critical role in the outcome of some of the battles, gunfights, and ultimately world-changing events that ensue. Your actions will help to define and alter the ultimate war on drugs.
