Even though publishers usually release their hits in October and November, this December is not devoid of interesting premieres. We’ll get some pretty exciting original games, alongside expansions to popular titles such as Destiny 2 and Elden Ring Nightreign, and of course, some new versions of old titles. Let’s wrap up December’s video game releases.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion
- Release date: December 1, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is an arcade-style, side-scrolling beat ’em up where players have to face a threat from the villain Annihilus and his destructive Annihilation Wave. You can embark on this space adventure solo or team up with up to three friends. You shouldn’t have problems picking your characters because Cosmic Invasion features 15 playable heroes, including some of the most popular characters, such as Captain America, Venom, Storm, and Spider-Man. However, there are also lesser-known characters who deserve more spotlight, for instance, Phyla-Vell and my personal favorite, Beta Ray Bill.
The game leans into nostalgia with bright, retro-style pixel art. The “Cosmic Swap” system lets you pick two heroes per level and swap between them on the fly, creating flashy combos and allowing for strategic synergy because even Spider-Man can team up with Silver Surfer if you feel like it.
Destiny 2: Renegades
- Release date: December 2, 2025
- Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X
The popular shooter will get another expansion, enhancing the ongoing Fate Saga. Renegades shifts the game’s vibe toward a space-western aesthetic. Guardians will be thrown into a shady underworld of syndicates and criminal undertakings, navigating the Lawless Frontier. If you’re a Guardian tired of conventional Light vs. Darkness drama and ready for some morally grey missions in the far reaches of Sol, heat-firing guns and a cosmic outlaw crew of Renegades might be your kind of detour.
Besides the new story, players will get additional content such as brand-new activities and modes. Destiny 2: Renegades also introduces new weapons and gear types. Moreover, the DLC comes with revamps, including better vault storage and changes to how seasonal power carries over (less grinding, more picking up where you left off).
Let It Die: Inferno
- Release date: December 3, 2025
- Platforms: PC, PS5
A sequel to the 2018 hack-and-slash reboots the vibe from the original game by flipping the script: instead of climbing a haunted tower, you now plunge into a nightmarish chasm known as the Hell Gate. In its depths waits the Eye of the Reaper, a legendary reward whose power supposedly could shape the world.
As an immortal Raider, you’ll navigate shifting, procedurally generated zones, scavenging gear, and fighting grotesque monsters, and sometimes, fellow Raiders. Let It Die: Inferno offers melee-focused action with dual-wielding weapons. You pick your gear, mix weapons, and adapt on the fly. Sometimes you’ll swing two weapons, sometimes you’ll guard-break and deliver a brutal deathblow. Death in Inferno doesn’t just cost you health. Although you’re immortal, you might lose your loot and even your current body. If you liked the original for its weird, edgy tone and willingness to punish you for every mistake, Inferno promises more of that twisted charm, but with deeper lore, darker environments, and risk-versus-reward taken seriously. On the other hand, since it’s a roguelite with PvEvP, expect runs that can end quickly… so don’t get too attached to your shiny loot.
Nightreign Elden Ring: The Forsaken Hollows
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: PC
I didn’t realize that December 4 is such an important date for video game developers, but many of this month’s releases are scheduled for this exact day. First and foremost, players will get a chance to… die. And then die again, and again, and again, because Nightreign Elden Ring will get The Forsaken Hollows DLC.
The expansion features two new playable Nightfarers. The arcane-minded Scholar and the faith/strength-focused Undertaker give players new playstyles and tactical options in co-op runs. You will explore The Great Hollow, a dark, underground region with exotic ruins, ancient temples, cursed crystals, and a Shifting Earth feature that reshapes terrain, keeping every expedition unpredictable. In new areas, you will face a powerful new boss known as the Dreglord, plus additional bosses scattered around the new zones.
Routine
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X,
Routine was first announced in 2012, and many players probably have lost hope that it would finally come out. However, more than a decade later, this first-person sci-fi horror game is about to hit our consoles and PCs. Routine is the kind of horror-sci-fi mix that banks on atmosphere, subtle dread, and analog tech nostalgia. It will take us to a deserted lunar base, into a retro-futuristic world with flickering CRT screens and analog tech straight out of 80s space thrillers.
As the lone explorer, you must explore the base’s dark corridors, abandoned living quarters, and decaying facilities to piece together what went wrong. A device called the Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T.) will be your best friend there, as it allows you to hack terminals, access hidden areas, and uncover clues about the base’s grim fate. As you may assume, it’s not a friendly sightseeing tour. Hostile automatons might be lurking in the shadows. The game aims for immersion: there’s full-body awareness, minimal on-screen UI, and diegetic audio that makes every creak, hiss, or distant clang count toward building tension.
Octopath Traveler 0
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S|X
One of the most exciting releases this month is a turn‑based HD‑2D RPG from Square Enix. If you like JRPGs with a mix of heartfelt narrative, strategic combat, and a dash of “let’s rebuild civilization after catastrophe” vibes, Octopath Traveler 0 might be a release worth keeping an eye on. The game is set before the events of Octopath Traveler. You will follow the story of a player-created protagonist who, after the destruction of their hometown, embarks on a journey of restoration and revenge.
Fans of the series will recognize the signature turn‑based combat built around the Break and Boost system and the classic Path Actions. Besides classic features, Octopath Traveler 0 offers modern improvements, including full voice‑overs, brand‑new story content, and the ability to assemble a party of up to eight characters drawn from a roster of more than 30 companions. Moreover, Octopath Traveler 0 gives you more control over your experience. From your hero’s look to your party composition to rebuilding your hometown brick by brick.
Blood: Refreshed Supply
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X
Caleb is back, so it’s time to brush up on your one-liners and check your dynamite supply. Blood: Refreshed Supply is a remaster of the iconic 1997 first-person shooter, which gives another reason to embark on a quest for revenge against the dark god Tchernobog.
You play as undead gunslinger Caleb, once a powerful Cabal commander, who was betrayed by his dark master and slain. Unfortunately for his murderers, he resurrected and is craving revenge. The game sends you through 42 blood-soaked levels filled with cultists, zombies, gargoyles, hellhounds, and other hellish horrors. The arsenal includes a gruesome mix of conventional and occult weapons, such as shotguns, dynamite, flare guns, and the iconic voodoo dolls.
Compared to previous versions, Refreshed Supply promises modern enhancements: support for up to 4K resolution and high frame rates, customizable controls, online and split‑screen co‑op (for up to eight players), cross‑platform multiplayer, mod support, and inclusion of all prior add‑ons. It also bundles two fan mods: Marrow (available at launch) and Death Wish (coming as a free update).
Cloudheim
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X
Cloudheim is a cooperative action‑RPG by Noodle Cat Games. The game mixes physics‑driven combat, crafting, and even a bit of shopkeeping. You’ll explore the world torn apart by Ragnarok. With up to three friends, you’re tasked with bringing it back together.
You’ll explore floating islands and shifting dungeons, battle corrupted beasts and mythical enemies using combo‑heavy, physics‑based attacks, and craft weapons and gear with visual, real‑time crafting instead of digging through endless menus. Between expeditions, you return to your home base, where you can upgrade your workshop and even run a sky‑bound shop for customers from across the realm. It’s part action‑adventure, part loot‑driven chaos, and part floating entrepreneur sim.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: Switch, Switch 2
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an action-adventure game that brings back the iconic bounty hunter Samus Aran. In this installment, she finds herself transported to a strange alien world called Viewros, a mysterious planet teeming with alien wildlife, ancient ruins, and unknown dangers. Players will get to explore Viewros on foot and on a new high‑tech motorbike dubbed Vi-O-La, giving traversal a whole new, speed‑infused dimension.
Beyond doesn’t just add a new ride; Samus now wields psychic powers, letting her manipulate environments, hack mechanisms, or even guide her weapon shots in novel ways. That should shake up both exploration and combat in interesting ways. If you’re still looking for reasons to buy Nintendo Switch 2, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond can be one of them.
Skate Story
- Release date: December 8, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Mac, PS5, Switch 2
Have you ever thought of mixing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Doom? Someone apparently has, because Skate Story is an indie skateboarding game set in hell and letting you fight demons. You play as a demon made of “glass and pain” who’s accepted a devil’s offer: get on your skateboard, shred through the underworld’s twisted landscapes, skate your way to the Moon, and swallow it to earn your freedom. Gameplay revolves around fluid trick-based skateboarding: ollies, kickflips, grinds, and combos are your tools to navigate hazardous terrain, battle demonic foes, and complete bizarre tasks in surreal, smoke‑filled Underworld zones.
As you progress, you shift from fragile beginner skater to hardened underworld shredder, trading soul‑earned currency for new board parts like decks, wheels, and trucks; unlocking over 70 tricks; and facing increasingly weird, often humorous challenges.
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut
- Release date: December 4, 2025
- Platforms: Switch, Switch 2
Another blast from the past among December’s releases. The extended version of the Yakuza prequel initially came out on Nintendo Switch 2, but now the exclusivity period is ending, so the game is heading toward other platforms. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut introduces extra content, including new cutscenes that deepen major plot points and character backstories, a new online‑friendly “Red Light Raid” mode, and updated localizations.
You still play as Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, two fan‑favorites roaming through 1988’s neon‑lit districts of Tokyo and Osaka. The classic brawler combat returns, offering each hero three distinct fighting styles to mix up fists, improvised weapons, and special moves. Beyond the fights, Director’s Cut polishes the many side‑stories, mini‑games, and slice‑of‑1980s‑Japan life. From discos and arcades to cabaret clubs and real‑estate hustle.
Mutant Football League 2
- Release date: December 10, 2025
- Platforms: PC, Switch, Xbox Series S|X
Mutant Football League 2 is the brutally fun, over‑the‑top game that turns American football into a violent, mutant‑filled blood sport. In MFL2, you don’t just throw passes and run plays; you pick from rosters full of mutants, robots, undead skeletons, orcs, and other freakish types, and dive into 8‑on‑8 matches where tackles can end in explosions, stadiums can be booby‑trapped, and the word “fair play” is basically a cosmic joke.
You’ll get to build your own custom team, choose uniforms and logos, even design your own death‑trap stadium with hazards like buzz‑saws, giant worms, or explosive traps. It’s a sort of home‑field advantage taken very literally. MFL2 offers Dynasty Supreme, a full franchise mode, where you draft, train, and manage players across seasons to a quest to build a lasting mutant legacy.
Ashes of Creation
- Release date: December 11, 2025
- Platforms: PC
Ashes of Creation is an ambitious fantasy MMORPG that will hit Steam Early Access this month. The game is set in the dynamic world of Verra that evolves based on players’ actions. Cities can rise (or fall), economies and trade networks shift, and the game aims to make your choices.
At launch, players will be able to pick from a set of primary archetypes to define their approach: from brute strength to magical powers to stealth to support roles. Your path in Ashes of Creation can evolve over time, as the developers promise flexibility, letting the community help shape how the world unfolds.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – From The Ashes Expansion
- Release date: December 19, 2025
- Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X
If you enjoyed the original for its open‑world exploration and environmental storytelling, From the Ashes might pull you back to Pandora, this time with higher stakes, a more intimate story, and a chance to see the world in a new light. In this expansion, you step into the shoes of So’lek, a Na’vi warrior from the Trr’ong clan. The protagonist awakens to find the world around him burning, his Sarentu family scattered, and a ruthless new enemy alliance (the human RDA plus the feared Ash clan) looming over the ravaged Western Frontier of Pandora.
From the Ashes offers a darker, more personal narrative compared to the base game’s broader conflict. The journey becomes one of survival, vengeance, and redemption. A gritty and emotional story woven into the lush but war‑scarred landscapes of the ruined Kinglor Forest and a brand‑new region filled with dangers. Gameplay‑wise, the expansion brings enhanced immersion: combat mechanics are tuned up, and players can experience Pandora from a new angle thanks to a third‑person mode.
