Everything we know about Smite 2

02 July 2024

Are you a fan of SMITE? Get ready for an exciting new chapter! Smite 2 is gearing up to bring even more action, strategy, and mythical battles to your gaming experience. We’ve gathered everything we know so far about this much-anticipated sequel.

What is Smite?

Smite is a free-to-play, third-person multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game. In this game, players take on the role of a powerful mythological figure and battle other players in a variety of arenas.  It’s a fast-paced and action-packed game that requires teamwork and strategy to succeed. The list of Smite playable gods is pretty impressive: the game boasts 130 characters to choose from!

Why a sequel?

The reason standing behind the release of a sequel is pretty simple. The developers behind Smite 2 wanted to continue expanding the game and its universe, but the game’s engine age has certain limitations. With a constantly growing player base and a demand for new content, a sequel is the perfect opportunity to introduce fresh ideas and features while keeping the core gameplay that fans love. Smite 2 will harness the power of Unreal Engine 5.2+, featuring brand-new textures, graphics, and more intricate environments than the original Smite.

What’s new in Smite 2

Similar to its predecessor, Smite 2 will feature an impressive lineup of deities from diverse mythologies. Whether you favor Greek, Norse, Egyptian, or other pantheons, there will be a god suited to your playstyle and strategy. Among the new additions is Hekate. The roster will gradually expand, initially offering a limited selection to ease players into the sequel while providing developers the opportunity to refine the game at the early stage.

Designed as the most accessible MOBA, Smite 2 includes auto-build and auto-level options, allowing players to focus on the thrill of battle. However, beneath its approachable surface lies the full depth of MOBA gameplay. Players can develop their path to victory through item building, map control, and tactical brilliance. No other game combines the feel of your favorite hero shooter with the deep strategy of a 5v5 MOBA. In Smite 2, every shot matters.

Smite 2 cross-play and cross-progression

Whether you prefer keyboard and mouse, controller, or SteamDeck, Smite 2 has you covered. The game is designed from the ground up to play seamlessly across all platforms. Plus, with full cross-play and cross-progression, you can play with friends regardless of their platform and carry your progress with you from PC to console.

Will Smite skins carry over to Smite 2?

If you played Smite, you are probably wondering whether your collection of skins will be transferred to the sequel. Unfortunately, this won’t be possible. Most Smite 1 content won’t be transferred, but don’t worry too much about that. Your progress will be rewarded through Legacy Gems and Divine Legacy. As we read on the Smite 2 official website:

The Divine Legacy is a new event in SMITE 1 designed to reward you for your progress and achievements over each year of SMITE’s history. We’ve tracked the gods you’ve mastered, the ranked matches you’ve lost, the skins you’ve unlocked, and the match hours you’ve played. You earn points for your progress in each year, and your points are tallied together to give you rewards

Legacy Gems is a currency that will be given based on how many Gems you’ve spent in Smite 1, whether free or purchased.
