Will MechWarrior 5 Be Able to Live Up to The Substantial Hype?

It’s a day in the year 3015. Across a huge region of space, thousands of systems have been colonized by humanity which by centuries of war have fallen apart. MechWarriors, who are the leading pilots of massive machines of war known as BattleMechs have dominated the battlefields. It is worth a while to be a mercenary.

On August 20, 2019, in Vancouver Piranha Games developer publicized on December 10th MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is all set to launch on PC. They announced that for the upcoming MechWarrior 5, the campaign-focused classic series’ first single-player entry, preorders are available through the Epic Games store.

The gameplay style of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is modeled after MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, which allow players the liberty to choose how to run their campaigns. As compared to previous versions pilots in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be able to build, guide and manage their mercenary unit during the spreading Third and Fourth Succession Wars through a multi-year campaign.  This will enable them to enjoy by far the maximum player choice and freedom.

So now the question arises here is will Mechwarrior 5 be able to live up to the expectations of its users?

The game was first intended to launch in September but due to series reboot, its launch was moved away to December. Piranha planned to add more polish to Mechwarrior 5 as part of the delay. But the news doesn’t end here. The studio also announced that for one year the sci-fi mech simulator is exclusive to the Epic Games store. By doing this agreement Epic’s effort was to compete with Steam by building their audience on the gaming platform. Piranha also said that as a part of the deal, the money it is going to get from Epic is only going to improve the game.

The studio president Bullock said as a part of marketing activities for a full month or more his team is expected to be in front of Epic Games Store customers after his game launches. He said to sell at least 1 million copies of MechWarrior 5 is the goal. He believes that it’s utterly possible given what he knows about the sales of other games like Harebrained Schemes’ BattleTech in the same genre. Moreover, on the Epic Games Store, he feels it’s particularly possible.

He highlighted that when they made the deal he and his team members were fully aware of the criticism they would receive from fans. However, he was still required to decide to secure the future of the franchise and for its good and also for the potential sequel down the line.

If the game lived up the same level of responsiveness the original series had back then, players might even expect the return of the models, novels, and other items. There are tons of lore and platforms dedicated to the discussion of the game by the community. Mechwarrior’s fandom is the same as its community is still around although their love for the game has aged.  So for better or for worse, the game will be easily accessible for its players on the Epic Games Store, if there no further delays happened.
