Aniimo Guide and Free Codes: Everything to Know Before You Start

06 October 2026

Aniimo launched on September 16, 2026, on PC and consoles, and it made a loud entrance. SteamDB figures put its Steam peak at roughly 128,000 concurrent players. It’s quite an opening. If you are wondering what Aniimo actually is, whether it counts as a gacha game, which starter to pick or whether the shop gets in the way, this guide covers all of it. You will also find a list of gift codes that were working when we checked, and a breakdown of the game’s many currencies.

What Is Aniimo?

Aniimo is a free-to-play, open-world action RPG from Pawprint Studio in which you catch, raise and evolve creatures called Aniimo. You play as a Pathfinder exploring Idyll, a large continent whose wildlife changes with the environment, the weather and the time of day. The same meadow can offer different encounters at noon and at night.

Genre fans will spot familiar ingredients. Catching creatures and type matchups bring Pokémon to mind, open-world traversal and real-time combat feel closer to Genshin Impact, and the idea of a home base where your creatures pitch in has something in common with Palworld. What sets Aniimo apart is a mechanic called Twine, explained below.

The tone is bright and soft, with a storybook look. There is a story campaign, exploration, collecting, base building and multiplayer.

Aniimo Release Date and Platforms

The PC and console versions went live on September 16, 2026. The iOS and Android versions followed on September 23, 2026. On PC, you can play through Steam, the Epic Games Store or the official launcher, and the console versions are available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No Nintendo Switch version has been announced so far.

Cross-play and cross-save are supported, so your account progress, creatures and inventory follow you between devices. Two details are worth knowing in advance. First, Aniimo requires a constant internet connection, so there is no offline mode. Second, friends need to be on the same regional server to play together, because cross-region play is not supported.

Is Aniimo Free to Play?

Yes. Aniimo is free to download and play on every platform, with optional in-app purchases, as with most games of its type.

In the section below, you can find out what real money can buy, covering a monthly pass, a battle pass, cosmetics and resource bundles.

Is Aniimo a Gacha Game?

There is a big debate going around about whether Aniimo is a gacha game. And the answer is no. Not in the typical sense of this word anyway. Creatures in Aniimo are not locked behind randomized summons, paid pulls or limited-time banners. You find and catch them while exploring, and the game’s executive producer, Jovi Zhang, said before launch that gacha mechanics would not be used to obtain Aniimo. Reviewers who have gone through the shop report that purchases show exactly what you are getting, with no loot boxes or banners.

The label still sticks for some players, and it helps to understand why. The game has energy limits on certain activities, a monthly pass, a battle-pass-style Companion Handbook and a shop that is visible early on. To a number of Steam reviewers, that gives a live-service feel reminiscent of gacha titles, even though the capture system itself is not a gamble.

The fair summary is this: Aniimo doesn’t have a gacha element specifically, but you will encounter a lot of monetization.

Breakdown of Aniimo’s Gameplay

Catching and collecting

Wild Aniimo are caught with Aniipods, and you can also set traps. Timing your throw matters, and some creatures only appear under specific conditions such as a certain biome, weather or hour of the day. Stronger Alpha and Omega Aniimo act as bosses, and attempts against them are limited by Primergy, the game’s stamina-style resource. Every creature you catch is recorded in the Aniilog, the in-game index.

Twine

Twine is the feature that defines the game. Instead of only sending a creature into battle, you can merge with a captured Aniimo and take its form, gaining its skills and its way of moving. That also matters beyond combat. Many of Idyll’s puzzles and traversal challenges are built around specific creatures, so a gliding or flying Aniimo can open routes that a ground-bound one cannot. The same goes for a burrower, for example, which can get into specific places.

Combat, elements and roles

Combat runs in real time. Each creature has its own set of skills, an ultimate ability and an energy meter that limits how often you can use them, and every creature fills a role such as damage dealer, healer or support. When you build a team, aim for creatures whose roles complement each other.

Elements matter as well. There are nine of them (Fire, Water, Grass, Lightning, Ice, Earth, Wind, Light and Dark), and each creature carries one or two. It is the element of the attack that decides whether a hit is strong or weak, so a creature can cover its own weaknesses with the right moves. The game includes a built-in type matchup panel.

Evolution and rare variants

Most Aniimo can evolve through a staged system that ends in a stronger final form. On top of evolution, there are rarer variants to chase. Sparkling Aniimo are the game’s counterpart to shiny creatures, while Prismana forms are a separate type of encounter that can come with a different element combination. Some Prismana creatures are tied to seasonal content.

Homeland and your RV

Between expeditions, you can return to your Homeland, a personal space connected to your RV. There you plant crops, place decorations, arrange the layout and put your Aniimo to work on chores. Many creatures have Homeland skills that affect how productive they are, so base building feeds back into the rest of the game. Friends can visit, help with the harvest and even speed up egg hatching.

How Many Aniimo Are There?

You will often see more than 200 Aniimo, but that number includes every regional form and rare variant. The Aniilog, the game’s in-game index, lists 88 base species. Most creatures grow through up to three evolution stages: Lumin (the base form), Gamma (the middle form) and Nova (the final form), and some lines branch at the end. Emberpup, for example, evolves into Flameruff and then into either Scorchhowl or Inferlupa. Not every creature uses all three stages, so some skip straight from Lumin to Nova. A few of the rarest and most interesting Aniimo to hunt for:

  • Irisalis: a Legendary Grass-type damage dealer. You collect petals during an event, craft a personal Legendary Aniipod and capture it after a story battle.
  • Umbral Aniimo: dark-colored creatures with Perfect Potential, the best possible stat rolls. They are very rare in the wild.
  • Prismana Aniimo: rare forms with an extra element, such as Glacy, whose Prismana form becomes a Light and Water creature that buffs the whole team.
  • Sparkling Aniimo: the game’s counterpart to shiny creatures, with alternate coloring.
  • Fulmintis: a sought-after damage dealer tied to the first season’s Companion Handbook, so it may be a limited-time reward.

Because forms are tracked individually in the Aniilog, completing the collection means hunting for far more than the base species, which is why filling it takes much longer.

Helion or Lunara: Which Starter Should You Choose?

A few minutes into the game, you meet two Light-element Aniimo and have to pick one to join your team: Helion, a lion tied to the sun, or Lunara, a fox tied to the moon. At launch, the choice is permanent, and the other starter cannot be obtained.

Since both are Light-type, the decision comes down to playstyle. Helion is a close-range fighter that deals physical damage and grows stronger the longer it stays in the fight. Lunara attacks from a distance with magic-based light attacks and brings more recovery and utility to a team.

A common recommendation, and ours too, is to take Lunara if you are new to the genre or want a safer, more forgiving start, and Helion if you are comfortable with action RPGs and like being in the middle of the action.

One caveat about the starter you leave behind: during the story, a character named Lewis at the Polaris Institute hints at an item called the Ancient Prism that could awaken the one you passed on. However, no such method exists in the game right now, so it is safest to treat your choice as final, although there are speculations that a starter recovery item could be added later in the development process.

Multiplayer, Co-op and Egg Heist

Aniimo can be played entirely solo, but there is also optional multiplayer. Co-op unlocks after the opening part of the story and works on a hosted-world basis: up to four players (the host plus three guests) explore together, and quest and structure progress is saved in the host’s world only. The creatures you catch stay on your own roster.

Worth noting is that the main story quests cannot be played in co-op, so the campaign remains a solo affair. Co-op is suited to boss fights, sanctums and exploring, and players can also trade creatures with friends.

The competitive side is Egg Heist, a PvPvE mode set on the Lost Isles. Teams of three race to grab rare eggs while fighting wild creatures and rival players at the same time. It is the one mode where PvP is the focus, and it is aimed at later stages of the game.

Aniimo Currencies Explained

Aniimo introduces plenty of currencies early on. Four of them matter most when you start.

CurrencyHow you get itWhat it is used for
CreditsQuests and selling itemsCrafting and basic items from vendors
GlimmerDaily missions, story progress, boss challenges and gift codesRefilling Primergy, buying Sparkling Cubes and items that boost creature stats
PrimergyRegenerates over timeLimits how often you can attempt Alpha and Omega Aniimo and collect rare rewards
Lumin CrystalsMostly real-money purchases, occasionally event rewards or gift codesOutfits and cosmetics, shop bundles and individual items

Lumin Crystals are the premium currency, and you will not collect them through ordinary play. If you would rather buy Lumin Crystals outside the in-game shop, GAMIVO offers a direct top-up for Aniimo.

Primergy deserves a closer look because it controls how much high-value content you can run per day. It regenerates on its own, Glimmer can refill it a limited number of times, and the Monthly Pass raises the cap.

Is Aniimo Pay-to-Win?

Aniimo isn’t exactly pay-to-win, since there’s nothing exact to win. But there are some mechanics that can make the game a little bit easier. Here are some amenities real money can buy:

  • Monthly Pass: about $4.99 at the time of writing. It provides Lumin Crystals, daily rewards and perks such as a higher Primergy cap and faster egg hatching.
  • Companion Handbook: the game’s battle pass, with a free track and paid tracks. The Advanced edition costs about $9.99 and the Collector’s edition about $19.99 at the time of writing. The paid track includes an exclusive Prismana creature, and the one on offer changes between seasons.
  • Bundles and consumables: resource packs and items such as Sparkling Cubes, which shorten farming time.

There are also cosmetics, which include outfits for your Pathfinder and other appearance items. They do not affect your power, though.

One important thing to note is that prices can differ by region and store, so check your own storefront. The overall status of Aniimo is closer to “pay for pace” than “pay to win.” Free players can explore, catch creatures, follow the story and build a collection, and paying makes the process faster.

The only exception is that some seasonal Prismana creatures are tied to the paid Handbook track, so a truly complete collection may require some spending.

Aniimo System Requirements on PC

Before you download Aniimo, it is worth checking that your PC can handle it. The good news is that the game is not especially demanding, and even older gaming rigs should get it running. Here are the official specifications listed ahead of launch.

Minimum:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 5600
  • Graphics API: DirectX 11/12
  • Storage: 40 GB of free space

Recommended:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, or better
  • RAM: 16 GB or more
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6700, or better
  • Graphics API: DirectX 11/12
  • Storage: 40 GB of free space, SSD recommended

The minimum specification is enough to launch the game and play on low settings. If you want smoother performance and better visuals, aim for the recommended column. Keep in mind that these figures were published before launch and may change as game development continues.
