Season 4 of Call of Duty Modern Warfare has just begun. With several adjustments to the games balance and new weapons added, you’ll likely want to get back into the swing of things. Though gun tiers tend to change somewhat, the pecking order tends to remain fundamentally the same.
We’ve compiled Modern Warfare’s guns into tiers to help you with your loadout decision making.
COD S Tier – The Best of the Best
Assault rifles rule the day for the most part in Call of Duty Modern Warfare. That’s why the M4A1 stands head and shoulders above the rest. This gun’s amazing balance between stability, effective range, and damage just makes it a solid pick overall. Within the same tier, you’ll also find another assault rifle, the Grau 5.56 as well as two submachine guns, the trusty MP5, and the MP7. While not as good as the M4A1, the rest of the S tier can be great guns when you want to switch things up.
Modern Warfare A Tier – A Cut Above the Rest
Top of the line is this tier, but not nearly as strong as the M4A1, are another two assault rifles; the Kilo 141 and the M13. Both of these weapons are quite powerful in Call of Duty Modern Warfare but lose to the M4 because of their slower fire rate. Outfitted with the right mods, however, they become beastly. The RAM-7 also makes this tier thanks to its high damage and reliable stability. If you’re looking for an SMG in the tier, the PP19 Bizon is your friend. For the marksmen out there, the MK2 Carbine isn’t quite a sniper rifle but can down an opponent in 2 taps.
Modern Warfare B Tier – More Time in the Oven
While we wouldn’t call these guns trash, the B tier contains guns that would probably not suit a competitive player. Call of Duty Modern Warfare has a large selection of weapons so it’s natural that some aren’t up to spec. The P90 SMG, for instance, is reliable in terms of stability but falls short due to lower damage compared to the MP5, and even the PP19. The AX-50 is excellent at the range but takes quite a while to reload. The legendary AK-47 also doesn’t quite make the cut in this game as its stability heavily hampers its performance. Finally, the Bruen MK9 is a beast of an LMG but feels clunky to handle, especially when you’re on your own.
Modern Warfare C Tier – Stay Away
Unless you’re playing to have some fun in Call of Duty Modern Warfare or feel like challenging yourself, this tier of guns should probably be avoided. The Dragunov is extremely low damage for its class despite being semi-automatic. Surprisingly, the FAL also…falls short despite being a dominant force in other CoD games. As LMGs aren’t particularly good in Modern Warfare, guns like the Holger should probably stay in the barracks.
Using every little advantage you can get is key to staying competitive in Call of Duty Modern Warfare. While every gun can be quite powerful when the skill is present, reliability is always a factor in a fast-paced game like this one.
